Description:

Summary/Objective: The Surgery Scheduler is primarily responsible for coordinating surgical procedures according to established guidelines.

Essential Functions: (This list may include but is not limited to the following assigned duties)

  • Schedule surgical procedures and confirm appropriate clinical and insurance coding information is collected for the surgery schedule.
  • Receive requests to schedule procedures and schedule the procedure according to established guidelines.
  • Provide accurate information so that all departments and maintain open communication with hospital departments and physician offices regarding schedule changes.
  • Answers incoming telephone calls on a multi-line telephone system in a professional manner.
  • Transfers calls to the appropriate person and writes messages in accordance with approved telephone procedures.
  • Completes post-op data entry in a timely and accurate manner
  • Document and notify Doctor when a patient cancels a surgery.
  • Type correspondence and office memos as directed.
  • Regular attendance in the office is required for this position

Requirements:

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Previous scheduling experience in a health care environment
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with medical diagnostic procedures, health care billing and authorization is required
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/Confidentiality
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).

· Work is performed in a busy office environment and requires both desk and counter work.

· Frequent contact with employees and outside agencies.

· Continual patient contact may involve dealing with angry or frustrated patients.
