Description:

The Materials Coordinator supports daily material availability, inbound material control, inventory accuracy, kanban execution, MRO replenishment, material handling, outside powder work flow, and interdepartmental material movement at QuikCut West in Columbia City. This is a hands-on plant-floor coordination role supporting laser cutting, sawing, forming, welding, weld automation, powder coating, assembly, and shipping operations.

The Materials Coordinator is expected to spend significant time in receiving, material storage locations, production areas, staging lanes, and shipping to help ensure materials are available, identified, organized, and flowing according to schedule. The role works under the direction of the Materials Manager and partners closely with production leadership, scheduling, supply chain, and shipping to support daily execution.

Key Responsibilities

· Receive, identify, label, store, stage, and move materials for laser, saw, form, weld, powder coat, assembly, and shipping operations.

· Support sheet goods control, including stock material, job-specific material, remnants, and lean racking practices.

· Support tube, angle, structural material, purchased inventory, hardware, components, and consumables required for production.

· Perform inventory transactions, cycle counts, material checks, and discrepancy research in the ERP/MRP system.

· Execute replenishment and kanban activities for incoming materials, assembly inventory, MRO, packaging, and production supplies.

· Stage jobs, move WIP, support weld material handling, maintain production pallet flow, and help keep work centers production-ready.

· Coordinate with shipping on packaging needs, finished goods staging, inbound material visibility, and outbound readiness.

· Communicate shortages, late materials, incorrect quantities, damaged materials, supplier issues, and schedule risks to the Materials Manager and appropriate functional partners.

· Maintain clean, organized, labeled, and safe material storage and staging areas using 5S and visual management practices.

· Follow safety procedures for material handling, forklift operation, crane use, racking, storage, aisle discipline, and PPE requirements.

Requirements: Required Qualifications

· 2+ years of materials, inventory, warehouse, receiving, shipping, purchasing support, supply chain support, or production support experience in a manufacturing environment.

· Experience supporting production operations with raw materials, components, supplies, packaging, or finished goods.

· Basic understanding of inventory control, receiving, shipping, material staging, production flow, and replenishment systems.

· ERP/MRP system experience or ability to learn system transactions quickly.

· Ability to read work orders, pick lists, labels, material descriptions, part numbers, and production schedules.

· Forklift experience or ability to become certified; ability to safely handle heavy, large, and sharp-edged metal materials.

· Strong communication, follow-through, attention to detail, and sense of urgency.

· Ability to work on the production floor for extended periods and support hands-on material movement as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience in custom metal fabrication, sheet metal fabrication, laser cutting, sawing, forming, welding, robotic welding, powder coating, finishing, assembly, or related manufacturing processes.

· Experience with kanban systems, point-of-use inventory, cycle counting, 5S, visual management, lean racking, or standard work.

· Experience with MRO vending, supplier-managed inventory, Fastenal-type programs, or controlled dispensing systems.

· Experience using forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, scales, barcode scanners, or other material handling equipment.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements

· Manufacturing plant environment with regular exposure to production areas, receiving, shipping, material storage, powder coating, welding, fabrication, and assembly operations.

· Requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and hands-on material handling throughout the shift.

· Must follow all safety procedures and use required PPE, including eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear, and other plant-specific PPE.

· May require occasional overtime or schedule flexibility to support production, receiving, inventory, and shipping needs.
