This position is contingent upon contract award.

The Sheet-Metal Worker (Maintenance) supports berthing and messing operations aboard a U.S. Navy barge by fabricating, installing, repairing, and maintaining metal components and structures essential to barge habitability. This role ensures ventilation systems, ductwork, access panels, structural fittings, galley metalwork, and habitability fixtures remain in safe, serviceable, and compliant condition to support daily barge operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide maintenance, repair to original condition, or replacement of metal components of barges and their installed equipment and facilities.
  • Shall construct and install metal components in support of other repair activities.
  • Shall maintain, repair, fabricate, and replace (if needed) to original and operable condition for metal working requirements, such as heating, bending to form metal shapes, drilling, torch cutting, hammer forging, grinding, welding, sawing and fitting of metal parts.
  • Welding shall be performed on, but not limited to, light, heavy gauge and hardened metals using flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions. Processes include, but not limited to, preheating, brazing, bead welding, tack welding, flame cutting, pressure welding and heat-treating.
  • Performs machinist duties such as drilling, tapping, boring, reaming, and grinding a variety of materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, and brass.
  • Assists in cleaning and sanitizing interior and exterior surfaces.
  • May require support for pipefitting and plumbing maintenance.
  • Performs maintenance to repair or replace fire fighting equipment.
  • Accomplish a preliminary and final visual and operational inspection of all systems and equipment utilizing barge systems and equipment check off list (BSEC). Submit a detailed report of all discrepancies.
  • Other duties as identified and assigned.
Requirements:

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Active DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
  • Proven welding experience in industrial or marine environments.
  • 2+ years of sheet-metal fabrication or industrial metalwork.
  • Experience with HVAC ducting, marine metalwork, or facility maintenance.
  • Shipyard or maritime support experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Welding, A/C, and ductwork certifications.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • As Required.

Security Responsibilities

  • Eligible and obtain a DoD Personnel Security Clearance.
  • Must comply with all company Information Systems security policies and procedures.
  • May be responsible for proper classification and marking of all information and materials. Employee shall not divulge any information, or afford access to other employees not having a need-to-know authorization. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval. Will be required to execute company non-disclosure agreement prior to access to any controlled information.

Language Skills

Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex words and technical documents/diagrams.

Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing and work effectively as part of a team.

Reasoning Ability and Mathematical Skills

Must be able to analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. An ability to interpret complex customer requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is desirable. Must be able to calculate figures and numbers, and percentages and be able to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to detect odors, noises, bangs, etc., or other sounds to detect discrepancies of malfunctioning equipment.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Must be able to perform Domestic and International travel as required.
  • Shop floor environment.
  • Will be working in areas with risk of injury from electrical applications, moving mechanical parts, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems under pressure and electrical motion systems.
  • May be exposed to conditions of extreme heat, airborne particles, and loud noises.
