About This Role

Geronimo Power is seeking an EMS Engineer to join our operations team. The EMS Engineer will be instrumental in the implementation, oversight, and management of several energy management systems essential to the Remote Operations Center (ROC) for monitoring and controlling our operating assets. The EMS Engineer will assist in the development, integration, and deployment of Energy Management systems. The EMS Engineer will assist with troubleshooting data errors and analyze large data sets to ensure data integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, and test EMS displays for system operators and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with setup and configuration of Monarch SCADA and AVEVA PI systems.
  • Support onboarding renewable projects into the company’s asset management platform.
  • Develop and refine dashboards, reports, and automated processes to improve operational visibility.
  • Write and test code/scripts for data integration, reporting, and system optimization.
  • Troubleshoot system data gaps, alarms, and performance issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, IT, data science, and asset management teams to align on EMS/SCADA/API requirements.
  • Address and resolve data issues within PI, SCADA, and SaaS EMS promptly, ensuring the continuous operation of our renewable assets.
  • Work collaboratively with experts to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues within PI, SCADA, and SaaS EMS.
  • Apply strong problem-solving and technical skills, managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Validate EMS integrations, including ICCP interfaces, real-time data flows, telemetry, and system communications.
  • Engage in continuous learning and application of new technologies relevant to the renewable energy sector.
  • Understand and utilize communication protocols relevant to renewable energy systems and IT infrastructure.
  • Manage large datasets and apply this information to improve application performance.
  • Develop custom scripts and automation tools for improvements across systems.
  • Assist with software lifecycle management, upgrades, cybersecurity patching, and system maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • What You’ll Bring

  • A 4-year college degree or equivalent experience in a field that combines technology with sustainable practices preferred.
  • Experience in SCADA system design and application, especially within renewable energy systems such as PV, Wind, and Energy Storage.
  • Hands-on experience with EMS technologies including: SCADA, GMS/EMS, FEP, ICCP interfaces and real-time data systems, and RTU communication protocols (DNP3, Modbus).
  • Experience working with Aspen Tech OSI Monarch SCADA system (OpenFEP, OpenOPC, OpenSCADA, ICCP, HSH,etc.)
  • Knowledgeable in cybersecurity around data, industrial protocols, and the integration of high-voltage substations with grid operations.
  • Experience supporting enterprise operational software, cloud-hosted applications, or third-party monitoring platforms.
  • Organizational skills suitable for a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Knowledge of NERC/CIP medium impact
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high ethical standards and safety.
  • Proficiency in using data management tools, such as databases (Aveva PI, SQL, MySQL, MariaDB) and data visualization software (PowerBI)
  • Knowledge of data quality, security, and governance best practices
  • Communication and presentation skills to share data insights and recommendations with stakeholders.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with the following:

  • Renewable energy sector experience
  • Remote Operations Center experience
  • Aveva PI administration experience
  • Experience with AspenTech / OSI services environments
  • ICCP implementation experience
  • Experience with Python, SQL, or C language
  • Success in This Role Looks Like

  • EMS displays, dashboards, and integrations are built, tested, and maintained to support reliable ROC monitoring and control.
  • Data issues, alarm gaps, telemetry errors, and PI/SCADA inconsistencies are identified and resolved in a timely manner.
  • New renewable assets are successfully onboarded into EMS, SCADA, PI, and related asset management platforms.
  • Cross-functional partners in Operations, IT, Data Science, Engineering, and Asset Management receive clear technical support and timely communication.
  • EMS tools and processes are continuously improved through scripting, automation, documentation, and system optimization.

    Pay Range for the posted level: $100,000 - $130,000 plus target annual bonus opportunity of 15%. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and demonstrated market-relevant expertise
