Commercial Installer

The HVAC Commercial Installer is responsible for installing, assembling, connecting, testing, and troubleshooting commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. This position requires hands-on experience with commercial HVAC equipment, piping, ductwork, controls, electrical components, and system startups.

The Commercial Installer will work on a variety of commercial projects and must be willing and able to travel to job sites as required. The position requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, workmanship, and customer service.

• Install, set, connect, and commission commercial HVAC equipment and systems.

• Install and work on:

  • Rooftop Units (RTUs)

  • VRF/VRV systems

  • Split systems

  • Exhaust fans

  • Commercial ventilation systems

  • Condensing units and associated HVAC equipment

• Set and install equipment according to plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and applicable codes.

• Install ductwork, fittings, transitions, supports, and related sheet metal.

• Install and connect refrigerant piping and copper line sets.

• Properly insulate refrigerant lines, piping, and ductwork as required.

• Install equipment supports, hangers, curbs, and other required components.

• Read and interpret mechanical plans, drawings, specifications, and equipment installation manuals.

• Install and braze copper refrigerant lines and line sets.

• Perform proper brazing procedures using nitrogen where required.

• Pressure test and leak check refrigerant piping.

• Evacuate refrigeration systems and verify proper vacuum levels.

• Follow proper refrigerant handling and recovery procedures.

• Identify and correct refrigerant piping and installation issues.

• Install and connect HVAC controls and control components.

• Perform low-voltage wiring for thermostats, sensors, control boards, and other HVAC control systems.

• Identify and properly terminate control wiring.

• Follow wiring diagrams and manufacturer specifications.

• Assist with testing and commissioning building automation and HVAC control systems.

• Perform HVAC equipment startups in accordance with manufacturer requirements.

• Verify proper operation of equipment and system components.

• Check refrigerant pressures, temperatures, airflow, electrical connections, and control operation.

• Identify startup issues and make necessary adjustments or corrections.

• Complete startup documentation and report deficiencies to the appropriate supervisor.

• Ensure equipment is operating properly before turning the system over to the customer or service team.

• Troubleshoot commercial HVAC equipment and systems.

• Diagnose mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and low-voltage control issues.

• Identify installation deficiencies and correct problems as needed.

• Use appropriate testing equipment and tools to diagnose system issues.

• Communicate equipment or installation problems to supervisors and project management.

• Assist service technicians with troubleshooting when required.

• Travel to commercial job sites as required based on project needs.

• May be required to travel outside the employee's normal service area.

• Maintain flexibility to work at different job locations and project sites.

• Travel may include overnight stays depending on project requirements.

• Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in a clean and safe condition when assigned.

• Follow all company policies and procedures while traveling and working at customer locations.

• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and jobsite safety procedures.

• Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Follow lockout/tagout procedures when applicable.

• Maintain a clean and organized work area.

• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, lifts, ladders, and other equipment.

• Report unsafe conditions, injuries, incidents, or property damage immediately.

• Follow all jobsite-specific safety requirements.

• Attend required safety meetings and training.

The employee must be capable of safely using common HVAC installation tools and equipment, including:

• Hand and power tools

• Brazing equipment

• Refrigerant gauges and recovery equipment

• Vacuum pumps

• Nitrogen equipment

• Electrical testing meters

• Low-voltage testing equipment

• Drills and impact drivers

• Sheet metal fabrication and installation tools

• Ladders and lifts

• Other HVAC-specific tools and equipment

• Commercial HVAC installation experience preferred.

• Experience installing RTUs, VRF systems, split systems, and exhaust fans.

• Experience with copper refrigerant piping and brazing.

• Knowledge of HVAC controls and low-voltage wiring.

• Ability to perform equipment startups and basic troubleshooting.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and HVAC installation documents.

• Knowledge of commercial HVAC installation practices and applicable codes.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship.

• Good communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to work in various weather conditions and physically demanding environments.

• Ability to lift and carry HVAC equipment, tools, materials, and components.

• Ability to work in confined spaces and mechanical rooms.

• Ability to work in hot, cold, dusty, noisy, and outdoor environments.

• Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of commercial HVAC installation.

This position primarily works at commercial construction and job sites. The employee may work indoors, outdoors, on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and in other construction environments. Travel between job sites is required based on project needs.
