SUMMARY: This position is filled by a patient care technician who, as a result of educational and clinical experience, possesses the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide direct patient care. Ensures quality focused and cost-effective care delivery outcomes; functions within a collaborative practice to enhance quality of care; and participates in continuous quality improvement activities.

Responsible and accountable for basic patient care, timely notification to appropriate staff on completion of patient care and for patient status changes on the assigned shift under the direction of a licensed nurse. Responsible for adhering to all standards of patient care and promoting a team effort among co-workers. Responsible and accountable to know, own, and energize the mission, values and standards of the hospital.

Understands and adheres to Baxter Health standards and policies.

Required to work with the Nurse Director regularly to carryout, initiate and/or implement best practices.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent or minimum score of Bronze on the Career Readiness Certificate (“CRC”).

Experience: No experience required. Applicants with no experience will be required to complete a residency program.

Certification: Current Arkansas nursing assistant certification preferred; BLS required. ACLS and Safety Care De-Escalation certification required in the first 3 months of employment.

Other: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively. Basic computer knowledge required.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job with or without an accommodation. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to perform the following: Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions. Occasionally requires lifting of 50 pounds or more of equipment, able to push in excess of 150 pound wheelchair with patient and equipment, and occasionally lifts patients with assist 125 pounds or more using proper body mechanics. Spends eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse. Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations of CPR and obtaining equipment. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure. Has a keen sense of hearing and keen visual acuity to respond to critical changing patient situations from actual observations and/or equipment alarms. May be subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to high heat and chemicals) and infectious diseases. May have to function around prisoners or patients in mental health crisis.
