Job Description

Who we are

Family-owned and operated since 1982, JDK is a diversified, multi-unit operator headquartered in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania. We operate restaurants and hotels in six states, including a medical service division. We are a people-first organization guided by three core values: Hungry, Humble, and Smart. Our mission is simple: to take care of people. That commitment begins with our own team.

The role

As Payroll Manager at JDK, you will lead a payroll team responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll across our multi-entity, multi-state organization, including hourly and salaried employees, bonus payrolls, off-cycle runs, garnishments, deductions, and payroll taxes.

You are the liaison between Human Resources, Field Operations, Accounting, and the Payroll team; ensuring accuracy, compliance, and clear communication at every step. You report directly to the Vice President of Human Resources and operate with a high degree of authority and autonomy over your function.

This is not a role for someone who wants to process and move on. It is a role for someone who wants to help set the standard, build the process, develop the team, and make the function better than they found it.

What you’ll do

  • Full-cycle payroll processing across multiple legal entities and EINs; weekly, biweekly, and off-cycle runs for hourly and salaried employees.
  • Accurate and timely processing of wage attachments, garnishments, deductions, and other wages
  • Payroll tax compliance; federal, state, and local withholding, quarterly and annual filings, and staying current on multi-state wage and hour law
  • Payroll optimization using our HRIS (currently Rippling); system configuration, troubleshooting, and vendor accountability
  • Audit reporting; compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, and wages for leadership review
  • Development and implementation of measurable payroll standards and metrics to ensure accuracy and continuous improvement
  • Benefits deduction accuracy and coordination with Human Resources
  • Year-end processing (W2s, reporting, reconciliation)
  • Supervisory responsibility for the Payroll team; selecting, training, developing, and providing clear and timely feedback to your people
  • Internal controls; continuously monitoring workflow procedures and enhancing them as needed

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field
  • 5+ years of full-cycle payroll management experience in a multi-state, multi-entity environment; hospitality or high-volume hourly workforce strongly preferred
  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) credential required; candidates actively pursuing the CPP designation will be considered, contingent upon obtaining the certification within six months of their start date
  • Deep working knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll tax law, wage and hour compliance, and regulatory reporting
  • Proven experience with complex HRIS platforms; Rippling experience a significant plus
  • Learning agility and technical adaptability; you embrace new systems, figure them out quickly, and bring your team along with you
  • Exceptional attention to detail; you notice what others miss, you document what you find, and you fix it before it reaches an employee
  • Composure under pressure; payroll doesn't pause for system errors, and neither do you
  • Clear, direct communicator who can advocate for the right process with operators, vendors, and senior leadership
  • While payroll demands high precision and confidentiality, the ideal candidate balances this rigor with a positive, approachable demeanor. We are looking for an individual who fosters a welcoming environment and brings an encouraging energy to the workplace.

Where you'll work

  • This position offers the opportunity for hybrid work
