Job Description

Purpose:

The Preschool Program Coordinator will assist the Head of Lower School in the daily operation of the Preschool at Sheridan Hills Christian School, in accordance with school policies, procedures, and state licensing standards. The SHCS Preschool serves students from infants (3 months) to K4 (4-5 years) and has a capacity of 98 students.

Personal Qualifications:

    A born-again believer with a testimony of salvation by receiving Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord. An active member in good standing of a Bible-believing church. Public and private life that demonstrates biblical qualities of a Christian role model, at home, work, and in the community. Practice principles of Christian growth including prayer, study, witnessing, and discipleship. Have the physical and mental characteristics needed to perform the duties as stated in this job description.

Professional Qualifications:

    Must possess a minimum of an Associate degree in ECE or related field, one to two years of experience in a childcare setting, and a current Director Credential from the Florida Department of Children and Families. A current CPR and First Aid Certificate.

Responsibilities:

    Maintain close communications with Head of Lower School and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information related to the school, staff, students, and parents. Model Christian behavior. Perform all day-to-day operations of the preschool office, including answering phones, managing the door, monitoring visitors, and providing assistance to classroom staff. Understand ECE policies and developmentally appropriate practice in order to provide assistance to classroom staff. Ensure that preschool staff is performing opening and closing procedures to ensure the building and surrounding areas are clean and safe each day.Manage the pool of substitute teachers and plan the staff daily schedule (lunches, staff coverage, etc.) Communicate these to the Preschool Principal daily.Maintain accurate and updated preschool student records, according to DCF guidelines. Assist in the planning and coordination of in-house field trips and special events, such as special chapels, reading week, graduation, and other events as needed. Comply with and implement DCF and accreditation guidelines regarding the care of children, the management of the preschool office, and the maintenance of the preschool building (necessary repairs, playgrounds, and classroom cleaning procedures).Maintain the inventory of preschool curriculum and teacher classroom/art supplies. Communicate regularly with the Preschool Principal regarding teacher and parent issues, as well as the care and safety of children. Ensure both the Teacher and the Principal receive accurate information so they can deal with the issue.Understand that teachers are the authority in the classroom and implement our school policies regarding parent communications and student behavior. Inform the Principal of any issues.Assist and accept responsibility in other daily duties that might be temporary in the event other personnel are not available (cafeteria duties, opening/closing duties, etc.) Assist in ensuring that indoor and outdoor areas reflect a Christian environment in the preschool. Assist in providing an educational environment appropriate for young children. Maintain positive relationships among students, teachers, parents, and the SHBC community. Follow and implement policies in accordance with the purpose and mission of the preschool. Ensure timely communication between the preschool office and the finance department of all additions and/or changes to current students, late pick-ups, summer camp, and other payments. Represent the preschool in congregational activities when necessary.Collaborate with church staff during church events such as Awana, Family Camp, Sunday school, and others, as necessary. Maintain positive relationships and ongoing communications with stakeholders.Attend and participate in school events as requested (see list of events below). Collaborate with the Admissions department during tours, open houses, and other school events. Regularly notify the Maintenance department of needed repairs and maintenance. Order and manage preschool supplies and equipment. Act as a liaison to the church for proper custodial care of the facility when necessary. Follow the schedule and assist staff during disaster and fire drills. Stay informed of the school’s legal responsibilities and liabilities. Make regular safety checks of all space and equipment. Assist Preschool Principal with the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum activities that conforms to the Classical Christian philosophy of the preschool. Stay current on the latest research and new developments in the field of early childhood education. Assume preschool teaching responsibilities as deemed necessary by Administration. Maintain uniform dress code befitting a Christian school. Report matters of the preschool to the Preschool Principal regularly. Inform the Preschool Principal and the other Preschool Office Coordinator as soon as possible when absent. Plan to cover each other when absent (office staff).
