This role supports our clinical team by providing timely, high-quality extremity and spine radiographic imaging to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and committed to delivering safe, accurate imaging in a fast-paced orthopedic environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Imaging & Patient Care
- Perform diagnostic x-ray imaging within the specific body part categories authorized by the Illinois IEMA LXMO license, including extremities and spine.
- Position patients accurately and safely to obtain optimal diagnostic images while minimizing radiation exposure.
- Explain the x-ray procedure clearly and compassionately to patients prior to imaging, addressing questions and alleviating anxiety.
- Ensure patient comfort, dignity, and safety throughout the imaging process, including proper shielding and positioning.
- Identify and communicate any patient concerns or positioning challenges to the supervising physician promptly.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Active and unrestricted Illinois IEMA Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO) license with authorization for extremities and/or spine — or eligibility to obtain licensure within a defined timeframe agreed upon at hire.
- Successful completion of an IEMA-approved Limited X-Ray training program.
- Passing score on the ARRT Limited Scope of Practice Examination for applicable body part categories.
- Strong commitment to patient safety, dignity, and compassionate care.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume orthopedic clinical environment.
- Basic proficiency with computers and electronic health record systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience performing x-rays in an orthopedic, urgent care, or physician office setting.
- Familiarity with digital radiography systems and PACS.
- Experience working with orthopedic patient populations including post-operative and trauma patients.
- Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) certification or prior clinical experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of orthopedic anatomy and musculoskeletal imaging positioning.
LICENSURE & CONTINUING EDUCATION
The LXMO license issued by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) must remain active and in good standing at all times. The license requires renewal every two years with completion of required continuing education in radiation safety. The employee is responsible for maintaining licensure and providing proof of renewal to Human Resources prior to the expiration date. Failure to maintain an active license will result in immediate removal from imaging duties.
