Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. Cardiac Cath Lab Assistant
Position Summary
The Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Orderly provides essential patient transport, equipment support, and environmental services within the Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) Lab. Working closely with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals, the orderly ensures the safe movement of patients, maintains a clean and organized clinical environment, and assists with the preparation and turnover of procedure rooms to support efficient patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Transport
Safely transport patients to and from the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, recovery areas, inpatient units, radiology, and diagnostic departments.
Assist with patient transfers between beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, and procedure tables using appropriate manual handling techniques and equipment.
Provide reassurance and support to patients and families while maintaining patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
Assist clinical staff with positioning patients for procedures as directed.
Cath Lab Support
Prepare procedure rooms before scheduled cases by ensuring equipment and supplies are available and properly organized.
Assist with room turnover between procedures, including cleaning and restocking supplies.
Transport specimens, blood products, medications, and equipment as required.
Monitor stock levels and replenish consumables within the Cath Lab and associated storage areas.
Assist with the movement and setup of clinical equipment under the direction of clinical staff.
Environmental and Safety Responsibilities
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly working environment in accordance with infection prevention and control standards.
Follow established cleaning and decontamination procedures for equipment and patient care areas.
Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or maintenance concerns promptly.
Adhere to all workplace health and safety policies, including manual handling and radiation safety requirements.
Communication and Teamwork
Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary team members to support efficient patient flow.
Respond promptly to requests from nursing and medical staff.
Participate in departmental meetings, training, and quality improvement initiatives as required.
Demonstrate professionalism and compassion in all interactions.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a healthcare, hospital, or patient transport environment.
Knowledge of safe patient handling and infection control practices.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical ability to safely move and assist patients and equipment.
Performing EKG’s.
