About the role
This is a full-time position in our design engineering team, responsible for the electrical design and development of both prototype and production units across the entire product portfolio—from concept and detailed design through manufacturing release and support of Heads Up Technologies, Inc. products and systems.
You’ll be a hands-on designer who can also provide technical leadership on complex projects, collaborating closely with mechanical, software, and FPGA engineering teams.
Key Details• Work Days and Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Flexibility to set schedule.
• Location: This is a full-time onsite position located in Addison, TX.
• Work Eligibility: Must be a United States citizen.
What you'll do• Own detailed electrical design work including analog & digital design.
• Perform schematic capture, PCB layout, and ensure robust, manufacturable designs
• Plan and execute design verification and validation activities, including board bring-up, troubleshooting and performance characterization.
• Responsible for performing highly accelerated life testing (HALT), environmental qualification testing (DO-160G), etc.
• Produce, maintain, and review technical documentation including HALT summaries, test procedures, qualification test reports, product drawings, etc.
• Take an electrical lead on specific projects following department processes and standards and ensure that designs meet internal, customer, and functional requirements including schedule commitments.
• Work closely with mechanical, software, and FPGA engineers to create integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.
• Conceive, research, and implement engineering design changes yielding improvements in manufacturability and robustness in coordination with sustaining engineering team.
• Explore and evaluate new technologies, standards, tools, and devices for potential use of and integration into future products.
• Ability to guide, mentor, and support the development of junior engineers, fostering technical growth and team expertise.
Required Qualifications• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
• Eight (8) or more years of electrical design experience.
• Strong background in analog and digital circuit design, including microcontrollers, processors, and/or DSP-based designs.
• Symbol/Footprint Design, Schematic Capture, & PCB Layout: Experience with OrCAD Capture/Allegro PCB Designer or similar toolset (will be required to use OrCAD/Allegro).
• Experience with network/Ethernet designs and common communication interfaces (e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, etc.).
• Experience with hardware diagnostic tools including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, function generators, etc.
• Ability to research, understand, & apply functional & technical specifications, datasheets, hardware manuals, etc. to electrical designs.
Preferred Qualifications• Familiarity with embedded software design (C, assembly, etc.).
• Experience with circuit simulation and analysis (LTspice, PSpice, etc.).
• Experience with RTCA DO-160G environmental and electrical qualification or similar aerospace standards.
• FPGA/ASIC design experience (will be required to use Xilinx FPGAs & toolset).
