Prospect Researcher

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Prospect Researcher based in the United States.

As a key contributor to development and executive leadership efforts, you will conduct in-depth prospect research, identify emerging philanthropic opportunities, and deliver actionable intelligence that strengthens donor engagement strategies. The position combines analytical expertise, data management, and relationship support to help drive organizational impact and long-term fundraising success. Working closely with development professionals, executives, and cross-functional teams, you will provide critical information that informs cultivation, stewardship, board development, and strategic planning. Accountabilities
  • Conduct comprehensive prospect research and analysis on individual, corporate, foundation, and cause-related giving opportunities to support fundraising and engagement efforts.
  • Develop detailed prospect profiles, briefing materials, financial analyses, and strategic reports for development teams and executive leadership.
  • Research, verify, compile, and maintain accurate donor and prospect information within the organization's CRM platform.
  • Monitor industry news, philanthropic trends, prospect activity, and market developments to provide timely intelligence and fundraising insights.
  • Collaborate with fundraising professionals and organizational leaders to support donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and engagement strategies.
  • Identify and qualify new prospective donors and partners through proactive research and data analysis.
  • Partner with CRM and data management teams to maintain data accuracy, proper categorization, reporting integrity, and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Conduct institutional research related to philanthropic trends, peer organizations, competitive landscapes, and potential board candidates.
  • Prepare confidential reports, executive briefings, and strategic materials to support leadership decision-making.
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices, emerging research tools, and prospect management methodologies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in library and information science, marketing research, journalism, business, data analysis, social sciences, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4–7 years of prospect research experience within a nonprofit or philanthropic environment.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience using Raiser’s Edge NXT or comparable CRM platforms for donor and prospect management.
  • Hands-on experience with prospect research tools such as LexisNexis, iWave, Blackbaud ResearchPoint, or similar platforms.
  • Solid understanding of fundraising principles, donor lifecycle management, moves management, and philanthropy trends.
  • Knowledge of prospect research standards, data analytics methodologies, and industry best practices.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and information synthesis skills.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • High standards of confidentiality, ethics, data integrity, and professional discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to accuracy, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality research outputs.
  • Ability to travel domestically up to 10% as required.
