Head of Retail Expansion

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Retail Expansion based in the United States.

This role is responsible for leading the end-to-end expansion of a high-growth eCommerce brand into major retail and wholesale channels across the United States and international markets. You will own the strategy and execution required to move a proven digital-native brand into physical retail shelves, building relationships with key buyers, distributors, and retail partners. The position blends high-level commercial strategy with hands-on deal execution, including negotiating with major retailers, structuring international distribution agreements, and driving retail channel profitability. You will play a critical role in shaping how a fast-scaling consumer brand enters and succeeds in global brick-and-mortar ecosystems. This is a senior leadership role with direct ownership of revenue targets, retail P&L performance, and long-term channel strategy. The environment is fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and highly performance-driven, with significant visibility at the executive level. You will be building and scaling a retail function from the ground up within an already proven, high-demand brand.

Accountabilities:
  • Lead the retail and wholesale expansion strategy across the United States, identifying and closing partnerships with major national retailers and category leaders in home, pet, and consumer goods.
  • Develop and execute go-to-market strategies for each retail channel, including pricing, packaging, promotional planning, and in-store merchandising alignment.
  • Negotiate complex commercial agreements with retail buyers, including margins, co-op advertising, slotting fees, exclusivity terms, and trade spend structures.
  • Own retail P&L performance, ensuring revenue growth, profitability, and alignment with broader company financial objectives.
  • Build and manage international distribution networks across key markets such as the UK, EU, Canada, and Australia, including partner selection and contract negotiation.
  • Oversee sell-through performance, reorder cycles, and assortment optimization across retail accounts to maximize revenue and product visibility.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with supply chain, marketing, finance, and eCommerce teams to ensure seamless retail execution and channel alignment.
  • Develop scalable processes for retail expansion, including forecasting, inventory planning, and partner performance management.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in retail expansion, wholesale, business development, or consumer goods sales leadership roles.
  • Proven track record of successfully taking a DTC or eCommerce-native brand into major retail or big-box retail channels.
  • Strong experience managing international distributors and launching products in global retail markets.
  • Established relationships with retail buyers and category managers across major US retail chains in pet, home, or consumer goods categories.
  • Deep understanding of retail economics, including margin structures, trade spend, promotional planning, and retail compliance requirements.
  • Strong negotiation skills with demonstrated success closing high-value, complex retail agreements.
  • Experience managing retail P&L accountability and driving measurable revenue growth.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across internal teams and external partners.
