Job Description

Job Summary:

The Buyer maintains thorough working knowledge of assigned commodities, analyzes requirements from the MRP and places purchase orders timely to ensure materials availability. This position compiles and maintains material & parts inventory & status information to expedite movement of commodities from purchase to delivery.
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assures that the commodity is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price and meets the quality standards of the company.
  • Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • Reads production schedules, inventory reports, & work orders to determine type & quantity of materials required, availability of stock, and order priority.
  • Reviews and maintains inventory control information such as consumption rate, characteristics of items in storage and current market conditions, to determine stock supply and need for replenishment.
  • Resolves invoice discrepancies with accounting department when necessary
  • Resolves supplier's problems associated with discrepant material, rework, scrap, over shipments, shortages and is responsible for the disposal of obsolete or excess material.
  • Expedite deliveries as necessary, investigate and resolve daily receiving/invoicing issues.
  • Confers with department supervisors to determine overdue material and parts and to inform supervisors of material status.
  • When applicable, examines material received, verifies part numbers, and checks discrepancies such as damaged or unmarked parts.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree.
  • Experience: 1+ years of related experience and/or training.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from both internal and external customers.
  • Good work record, including attendance.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in manufacturing involving metal machining and fabrication.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
