Position Summary
The Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety and security programs to ensure a safe and secure environment for all employees, visitors, and assets. Reporting to the Safety and Security Manager, this role involves identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, enforcing safety and security protocols, and responding to incidents. The Safety and Security Specialist serves as the primary safety and security trainer for non-security team members across all departments and has regular contact with emergency personnel, outside vendors, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Program Implementation Deliver safety training programs as directed by the Safety and Security Manager; conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards; ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies
- Security Management Monitor physical security systems; assist in managing access control and badging as a backup to the Office Administrator; conduct facility patrols; assist the Safety and Security Manager in maintaining contract and proprietary security compliance with post orders; assist in implementing emergency response plans
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation Identify potential safety and security risks, conduct thorough risk assessments, and recommend and implement mitigation strategies to protect employees, visitors, and assets
- Incident Response Serve as a first responder to safety and security incidents including emergencies, accidents, and security breaches; investigate safety incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions
- Regulatory Compliance Stay current with all local, state, and federal safety and security regulations; ensure organizational policies and procedures remain in compliance with applicable standards
- Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with department heads, human resources, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety and security throughout the organization
- Documentation Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training activities, incidents, and corrective actions
Qualifications
Education & Certification
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Security Management, or a related field (Required)
- BLS/CPR Instructor Certification; OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour; Certified Safety Professional (CSP); Associate Safety Professional (APP) (Preferred)
Experience
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a safety and security role, preferably in a corporate or industrial setting (Required)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations including OSHA and NFPA standards and security best practices (Required)
- Proficiency in security systems, CCTV, and Microsoft Office Suite (Required)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively (Required)
- Familiarity with incident investigation and emergency response protocols (Preferred)
Work Environment
- Location: On-Site (Equity and AZ locations)
- Schedule: Full-time
- Key internal interactions with the Safety and Security Manager and Senior Warehouse Manager; key external interactions with police, fire, and emergency services
