Design Engineer - Microsoft/Cloud

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Design Engineer - Microsoft/Cloud based in the United States.

This is a customer-facing presales and solutions architecture role focused on helping organizations unlock the value of the Microsoft technology ecosystem.
You will act as a trusted technical advisor, translating business objectives and technical challenges into scalable, secure, and practical Microsoft solutions.
The role spans cloud modernization, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, workplace transformation, data and analytics, and emerging AI technologies.
You will work closely with account executives, Microsoft field teams, partners, and internal delivery experts to shape and win strategic opportunities.
From discovery sessions and solution design to executive presentations, demonstrations, proposals, and proof-of-concept engagements, you will influence the full sales lifecycle.
The position offers exposure to enterprise and government customers and the opportunity to guide complex technology transformation initiatives.
This is a remote U.S. role with travel of up to 50%, depending on location and customer requirements.v

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as the primary technical resource for Microsoft-focused sales opportunities, partnering with Account Executives to identify, qualify, develop, and advance new business opportunities.
  • Conduct customer discovery sessions to understand business objectives, technical requirements, operational challenges, and transformation priorities.
  • Design and position Microsoft-based solutions that address customer needs while aligning with technical best practices, business outcomes, security requirements, and long-term scalability.
  • Develop solution architectures, technical proposals, statements of work, RFP/RFQ responses, and other customer-facing technical documentation.
  • Deliver executive briefings, technical presentations, product demonstrations, workshops, and proof-of-concept engagements to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advise customers on cloud adoption, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity, workplace transformation, Microsoft 365, data and analytics, and AI strategies.
  • Collaborate with Microsoft account teams, partner organizations, internal practice leaders, and delivery teams to develop compelling solutions and strengthen customer relationships.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Microsoft technologies, solution portfolios, licensing programs, commercial agreements, and strategic initiatives.
  • Partner with implementation and services teams to ensure an effective transition from the sales process into solution delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to expand strategic accounts and position additional services or technology solutions based on evolving customer needs.
  • Represent the organization at customer meetings, conferences, partner events, and industry forums.
  • Provide technical leadership throughout complex sales cycles while balancing customer requirements, solution feasibility, commercial considerations, and business value.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in presales engineering, solutions architecture, technical consulting, or another customer-facing technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, presenting, and positioning Microsoft-based solutions within enterprise environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud architecture, cybersecurity, networking, infrastructure, and modern workplace technologies.
  • Proven solution-selling expertise in one or more areas such as Azure Cloud and Infrastructure, Microsoft 365 and Modern Work, Microsoft Security and Compliance, Data/Analytics and AI, Microsoft Copilot, or Generative AI.
  • Strong consultative selling, customer discovery, business alignment, solution architecture, and strategic account support capabilities.
  • Experience creating technical proposals, solution designs, statements of work, presentations, and other customer-facing deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, relationship-management, and executive communication skills.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business value for both technical stakeholders and senior executives.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to influence customers, partners, sales teams, and technical delivery organizations.
  • Experience supporting commercial, federal, Department of Defense, state and local government, or other highly regulated customers is preferred.
  • Familiarity with managed services, recurring-revenue models, Microsoft licensing programs, and commercial agreements is advantageous.
  • Experience working with Microsoft field teams and partner ecosystems is a plus.
  • Relevant Microsoft certifications, such as Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Cybersecurity Architect Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, Security Operations Analyst Associate, Identity and Access Administrator Associate, or Power Platform Solution Architect Expert, are preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required, with travel potentially reaching 50% depending on work location and customer needs.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
