Job Description

Transportation Manager

The Transportation Manager will provide tactical and operational leadership for the transport function within a medical waste facility, ensuring safe efficient operation of transport operations, resulting in customer service excellence. The role is responsible and accountable for ensuring safety and compliance standards, fleet maintenance, driver performance management and DIFOT performance of the business unit.
What you will do:
  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute a business unit transport strategy aligned with organizational objectives
  • Implement nationally derived standardization processes for transport operations across business unit
  • Drive transport excellence and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage transport fleet maintenance
  • Lead a Safety Culture pertaining to transport
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to achieve organizational grow strategies
  • Operational Management:
  • Oversee daily transport operations across the business unit
  • Optimize route planning and fleet utilization
  • Monitor and manage KPIs for transport performance and efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational safety and compliance programs
  • Team Leadership:
  • Foster a culture of safety and operational excellence
  • Build and develop high-performing transport team across the business unit
  • Drive recruitment, engagement and retention for transport personnel
  • Facilitate best practice onboarding, training and development
  • Mentor and manage driver performance and culture
  • Develop and mentor transport supervisor team members
  • Business Improvement and Growth:
  • Identify and facilitate fleet management and routing improvements with the National Director of Transport
  • Collaborate with Customer Service to ensure service level agreements are met
  • Develop and drive customer satisfaction and retention initiatives by delivering consistent DIFOT and NPS scores
  • Develop internal strategic partnerships and coordinate with key stakeholders (P&C, Sales, Field Service, National support roles and peers across the business) to deploy business learnings within the business unit, accelerate improvement and growth opportunities

What you are responsible for:
  • Strategic Objectives:
  • Enhance customer service delivery and satisfaction
  • Ensure profitable operation of the business unit in-line with budget expectation
  • Drive safety performance improvements
  • Develop, monitor and improve transport efficiency metrics
  • Achieve transport efficiency targets
  • Implement standardized transport operations processes in line with national objectives
  • Implement fleet management and maintenance initiatives
  • Enact transport policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Plan and manage daily transport resources
  • Deploy new business opportunities in line with forecasted cost expectations
  • Team Leadership:
  • Provide direction and coordinate Transport Supervisors, Dispatches and Drivers
  • Coordinate staff onboarding, training and development programs
  • Lead performance evaluations and team development initiatives
  • Foster a culture of safety and transport excellence
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Coordinate with National Functional Teams (Transport, Sales, Field Service and P&C)
  • Performance Management:
  • Monitor and manage the 4 pillars of operation management Safety, Compliance, Service, and Efficiency
  • Monitor, analyze and improve operational and transport metrics
  • Monitor, analyze and improve customer service metrics (DIFOT and NPS)
  • Implement cost reduction and efficiency improvements
  • Manage resource allocation and budget control
  • Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Manage cost controls in line with budget expectations
  • Drive safety performance improvements by managing safe behavior and processes
  • Manage vendor relationships and contracts
  • Report on transport operations performance to leadership
  • Key Performance Indicators:
  • Transport efficiency metrics
  • Fleet utilization metrics
  • Customer service and satisfaction metrics (DIFOT and NPS)
  • Safety and compliance performance indicators
  • Financial cost per unit performance
  • Team engagement and retention rates
Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Mathematics, Operations Management, or related field preferred
  • 5-10 years of senior transport experience at management level
  • Transport capital budgeting experience
  • Experience in medical waste or related regulated industry is preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of transport safety regulations
  • Proven leadership and team development capabilities
  • CDL License and driving experience highly regarded but no required
