Job Description
MCGs products require engineering design, manufacturing, and quality input across electrical power, structural steel, airflow and cooling, noise control, equipment layouts, and systems integration. Engineering interns in the Power Systems division will be given short-term assignments consistent with their degree programs, coursework, and prior experience. They will work independently and with staff to complete their assignments and contribute to MCGs success. Designs and drawings will be documented in SolidWorks and AutoCAD depending on the project and engineering discipline.
Mechanical/Civil Engineering projects include designing and producing metal structures meeting requirements using SolidWorks (or AutoCAD for legacy systems), performing FEA or other load and stress and strain calculations, analyzing airflow (velocities, pressures, temperatures) including using CFD, calculating noise emissions, and analyzing heat transfer in/out and through the system, and systems integration and testing.
Electrical Engineering projects include designing, building, integrating, and testing electrical power equipment, wiring, and other electrically powered systems, interpreting customer and industry specifications and standards, balancing loads, producing designs, drawings, and schematics for electrical power equipment, and assisting with field support for installation and maintenance.
Manufacturing Engineering projects include producibility and quality input to designs, transitioning engineering designs into production, supporting production with capability and capacity studies, manufacturing plans, troubleshooting production issues, processing redlines and design/drawing updates, designing and analyzing fixturing, tooling and equipment, facility changes, and Value Engineering initiatives.
Accountabilities:
(Project during the internship may include one or more of the following):
- Participate in the design of products needed internal to MCG.
- Participate in the design of products that MCG is providing to its customers.
- Ensure designs and drawings are consistent with production capabilities and flow.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineers, project managers, production personnel, planners, purchasing, and Quality to complete designs and analyses.
- Assess the readiness of your solutions to progress to the next stage of development or production.
- Plan, manage, and conduct tests and analyze the results.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and codes during production.
- Present new engineering principles, theories, advanced technologies, and concepts to your work team.
- Document processes.
- Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Actively enrolled in a degree program leading to a BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or other relevant engineering degree.
- Experience and/or coursework consistent with designing and producing metal structures, electrical power equipment and wiring, systems integration and testing, and/or with analyzing airflow (velocities, pressures, temperatures), noise, and heat transfer consistent with one or more of the job summaries.
- Have reliable attendance, be respectful and responsible at work.
- Valid drivers license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen.
- Ability to apply concepts learning in academia to challenges at MCG
- Knowledge of jobsite safety and ability to always ensure a safe workplace.
- Proficient with MS Office, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, nesting software and other tools.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
