The Director of Cybersecurity is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's cybersecurity strategy, governance framework, and security operations. This role provides strategic leadership to protect company information, systems, networks, and digital assets from evolving cyber threats while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Cybersecurity Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and execute an enterprise-wide cybersecurity strategy aligned with business objectives.
  • Establish cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures based on recognized frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls).
  • Advise executive leadership on cybersecurity risks, emerging threats, and strategic investments.
  • Develop cybersecurity roadmaps and annual security objectives.

Security Operations & Incident Response

  • Lead the organization's cybersecurity operations, including threat monitoring, detection, investigation, and response.
  • Oversee Security Operations Center (SOC) functions and managed security service providers.
  • Direct incident response activities, including cybersecurity breaches, ransomware events, and forensic investigations.
  • Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery plans are maintained, tested, and continually improved.

Risk Management & Compliance

  • Conduct enterprise cybersecurity risk assessments and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, privacy requirements, and industry standards.
  • Lead cybersecurity audits, vulnerability assessments, penetration testing activities, and remediation programs.
  • Manage third-party and vendor cybersecurity risk assessments.

Infrastructure & Technology Security

  • Work with IT and technical leadership to keep security architecture across cloud, on-premises, network, endpoint, and application environments aligned with the overall security strategy.
  • Guide identity and access management programs, including privileged access management and multi-factor authentication.
  • Evaluate and implement cybersecurity technologies and tools.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing cybersecurity team.
  • Develop cybersecurity awareness and training programs across the organization.
  • Manage cybersecurity budgets, resource planning, and vendor relationships.
  • Foster a culture of security awareness throughout the business.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with IT, technical and architecture leadership, Legal, HR, Risk Management, Operations, and business leaders to strengthen the organization's security posture.
  • Present cybersecurity metrics, risks, and initiatives to executive leadership.
  • Collaborate with external partners, auditors, regulators, and law enforcement agencies when required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Business Administration, or related field considered an asset.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in information security, cybersecurity, or IT leadership roles.
  • 5+ years leading cybersecurity teams and enterprise security programs.
  • Experience managing cybersecurity operations in complex, multi-site, or global organizations.
  • Proven experience with incident response, risk management, cloud security, and regulatory compliance.

Certifications

  • CISSP or CISM preferred.
  • CISA, CCSP, or GIAC considered an asset.

Technical Knowledge

  • Security frameworks such as NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, and SOC 2.
  • Cloud security platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
  • Identity and Access Management (IAM), SIEM, EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, and threat intelligence solutions.
  • Data protection, privacy regulations, and cybersecurity compliance requirements.

Leadership Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen.
  • Exceptional communication and executive presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage complex security incidents and make decisions under pressure.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional leadership capabilities.
  • Proven ability to influence organizational change and drive security maturity.
