Service Technician

Service Technician Mgr

Summary:
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with electrical and mechanical systems, strong diagnostic skills, and a commitment to delivering excellent service. This position plays a critical role in ensuring customers have safe and reliable backup power when they need it most.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
· Perform routine maintenance and inspections on standby generator systems (e.g., oil changes, filter replacements, battery testing)
· Diagnose and repair generator issues including electrical faults, engine problems, and control system errors
· Respond to service calls and emergency outages in a timely and professional manner
· Document all service activities, inspections, test results, and repairs in the company’s service management system
· Perform system start-ups, load testing, and operational checks
· Communicate clearly with customers regarding service findings, recommended repairs, and usage instructions
· Coordinate with parts department and service coordinators to ensure efficient scheduling and inventory usage
· Maintain company tools, service vehicles, and safety gear in good working condition
· Adhere to all safety procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and local electrical codes
· Stay current on generator technologies and participate in manufacturer or company-led training
Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
· High school diploma or GED required
· Trade school or technical training in electrical, diesel, or mechanical systems preferred
Experience:
· Minimum 2–5 years of experience in generator service, electrical maintenance, diesel engines, or similar field service roles
· Experience with generator brands such as Generac, Kohler, Cummins, or Briggs & Stratton is highly preferred
· Familiarity with both residential and light commercial generator systems is a plus
Licenses and Certifications:
· Valid driver’s license with clean driving record (required)
· Manufacturer certifications (e.g., Generac Air-Cooled or Liquid-Cooled Certification) preferred
· EPA Section 608 Certification (if working with refrigerants) a plus
· OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred
· Electrical journeyman license a plus but not required
Skills and Abilities:
· Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills
· Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals
· Proficient in the use of electrical meters, diagnostic tools, and hand/power tools
· Excellent customer service and communication skills
· Ability to work independently in the field and manage service calls efficiently
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
· Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs., working outdoors, and standing for extended periods
