Mobile Mini Bus Mechanic in Ravenel, South Carolina at Kelly Tours Inc

We are looking for an experienced and dependable Mechanic to join our maintenance team. This position is responsible for traveling to company locations, bus yards, and job sites to inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair our fleet of mini buses and shuttle buses.

The ideal candidate will have experience working on automotive or commercial vehicles and be comfortable diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, and engine-related problems in the field. This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in keeping vehicles safe, reliable, and on the road.

Key Responsibilities

· Travel to company locations, bus yards, and job sites to perform mobile maintenance and repairs.

· Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and engine-related issues on gas-powered mini buses and shuttle buses.

· Perform preventative maintenance and routine service to keep buses operating safely and reliably.

· Perform oil and filter changes, brake inspections and repairs, belt and hose replacement, battery service, cooling-system repairs, and other routine maintenance.

· Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, starting, charging, fuel, cooling, and electrical systems.

· Troubleshoot check-engine lights and other vehicle warning systems using appropriate diagnostic equipment.

· Perform brake, suspension, steering, and drivetrain repairs.

· Inspect tires, wheels, brakes, fluids, belts, hoses, lights, and other safety-related components.

· Diagnose and repair air-conditioning and heating systems

· Perform emergency roadside or on-site repairs when a bus experiences a breakdown.

· Conduct vehicle inspections and identify potential problems before they result in a breakdown.

· Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and preventative maintenance.

· Communicate with management regarding vehicle condition, repair needs, and recommended repairs.

· Maintain an organized mobile service vehicle and ensure necessary tools, equipment, and commonly used parts are available.

· Coordinate with outside vendors or repair facilities when a repair requires specialized equipment or services.

· Ensure all repairs are completed safely and according to manufacturer specifications.

· Keep work areas clean and properly dispose of used oil, fluids, filters, and other waste.

· Assist with maintaining the company's overall fleet maintenance program.

· Perform other maintenance and mechanical duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Previous experience as an automotive, fleet, truck, or bus mechanic.

· Experience working on gas-powered vehicles.

· Strong knowledge of gasoline engines and automotive electrical systems.

· Ability to diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine the appropriate repair.

· Experience with diagnostic scanners and other automotive diagnostic equipment.

· Strong knowledge of brakes, suspension, steering, cooling, fuel, charging, and starting systems.

· Ability to read and understand repair manuals and wiring diagrams.

· Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in the field.

· Valid driver's license and good driving record.

· Strong attention to detail and commitment to vehicle safety.

· Ability to travel between company locations and respond to vehicle breakdowns.

· Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver tools, equipment, and vehicle components as required.

Preferred Experience

Experience working on the following is a plus:

· CDL B with P endorsement preferred

· Ford E-Series chassis

· Chevrolet Express/GMC Savana chassis

· Ford Transit chassis

· Cutaway shuttle buses

· Thomas, Starcraft, Glaval, Turtle Top, or similar shuttle buses

· Gasoline V8 engines

· Automatic transmissions

· Commercial fleet vehicles

· Fleet preventative maintenance programs

· Vehicle electrical and wiring systems

· Vehicle HVAC systems

Work Environment

This is a mobile field position. The mechanic will travel between company locations, bus yards, and job sites and may occasionally respond to buses experiencing mechanical problems while in service.

Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors and may involve working in hot, cold, wet, or otherwise challenging conditions. The position requires working around vehicles, traffic, fuel, lubricants, and mechanical equipment.

The mechanic must follow all company safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who is dependable, self-motivated, and experienced with vehicles. We need someone who can show up at a bus that isn't running, diagnose the problem, determine what is needed, and either make the repair or clearly communicate what is required to get the bus back in service.

Because this is a mobile position, the ability to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and prioritize repairs is extremely important.
