Engineering Technician in Macedonia, Ohio at INNOVE INC

Summary:

The Engineering Technician is a key member of the Engineering and R&D team, responsible for supporting product development, engineering design execution, prototype development, testing, and custom equipment development. This role bridges engineering design and hands-on implementation, helping translate concepts into functional prototypes, production-ready solutions, and field-ready product improvements. The Engineering Technician also serves as a technical resource for manufacturing, engineering, field service, and customer support teams by providing troubleshooting, testing, documentation, training, and implementation support. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, technically skilled, and comfortable working in both CAD systems and hands-on lab, production, and field-support environments.

Essential Functions:

Prototyping and Product Development

• Build, assemble, modify, and test prototypes to support new product development, proof-of-concept work, and engineering validation.
• Support rapid design iteration by refining prototypes based on test results, engineering feedback, and product performance observations.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to improve manufacturability, reliability, performance, and serviceability of new and existing products.
• Document prototype builds, testing outcomes, and recommended design improvements.
• Assist with new product introductions by modifying existing inventory, tooling, fixtures, and production processes as needed.

Engineering Design Support

• Create and update 2D/3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), product specifications, work instructions, and other supporting documentation for new and existing products.
• Review engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation for accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability.
• Assist engineers with design validation, tolerance analysis, and continuous improvement of product designs.
• Maintain revision control of drawings and technical documentation.

Testing, Validation, and Technical Analysis

• Develop and execute test procedures for prototypes, components, assemblies, and production equipment.
• Conduct product testing and validation activities to support engineering development projects and product changes.
• Collect, analyze, and document test data to support engineering decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
• Generate reports and recommendations related to product performance, process capability, and design improvements.
• Operate specialized lab or test equipment, as required, to support engineering evaluation and product performance analysis.

Custom Equipment, Tooling, and Fixture Support

• Design, build, maintain, and troubleshoot custom fixtures, test equipment, tooling, and related support equipment for manufacturing and R&D.
• Work cross-functionally with manufacturing and engineering teams to ensure equipment meets safety, quality, and efficiency requirements.
• Troubleshoot and improve existing equipment to enhance reliability, usability, and performance.
• Support implementation of custom solutions from concept through deployment.

Production, Field, and Technical Support

• Provide advanced technical support for complex production, customer, and field-service issues.
• Support field upgrades by installing upgrades, preparing upgrade kits, or assisting with implementation planning.
• Partner with production and field teams to diagnose equipment or product performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Train production personnel on new products, manufacturing processes, assembly procedures, and product changes.
• Serve as a technical resource to production, engineering, and support teams during product launches, design changes, and issue resolution.

Documentation and Continuous Improvement

• Develop and publish technical bulletins, work instructions, assembly procedures, and other product/process documentation.
• Identify opportunities for product, process, equipment, quality, and cost improvements.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, safety, and manufacturability.
• Assist in transitioning designs from prototype to production.
• Maintain laboratory, testing, and prototype equipment in safe working condition and keep workspaces organized.

Skills/Characteristics Needed for Success:

• Associate’s Degree or Technical Certification in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Design, or related field preferred
• 2–3 years of experience in prototyping, mechanical design support, or engineering technician role
• Experience working in a manufacturing, product development, or R&D environment preferred
• Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on technical skills
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling tools)
• Experience with prototyping tools, fabrication methods, and basic machining or assembly processes
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Collaborative mindset with strong communication skills

Physical Requirements:

May be required to move up 40 lbs. Must be able to safely work in a manufacturing environment with power and hand tools.
