This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Institutional Account Manager - Midwest based in United States.
This role is responsible for driving commercial performance across a multi-state Midwest territory while supporting greater awareness and appropriate use of specialized therapies. You will build trusted relationships with healthcare professionals, hospitals, academic institutions, and broader care networks. The position combines strategic account planning, territory management, disease education, customer engagement, and coordination of care. You will develop institutional plans, identify growth opportunities, and translate field insights into actionable strategies. Success requires strong communication, analytical thinking, follow-through, and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders without direct authority. This is a remote, field-based opportunity involving significant travel and virtual engagement with customers and internal teams.
- Achieve territory sales, market penetration, market share, and profitability objectives on a quarterly and annual basis.
- Develop and execute comprehensive territory business plans covering commercial strategy, disease awareness, patient adherence, opportunity development, and performance tracking.
- Create and implement individual institutional account plans designed to identify and advance opportunities within specific networks of care.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key healthcare stakeholders, including neurologists, pediatric neurologists, epileptologists, geneticists, nurses, nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, physicians, and other relevant clinical staff.
- Engage customers and internal stakeholders through in-person meetings and internet-based platforms, adapting communication to different audiences and settings.
- Develop strong knowledge of relevant disease areas and clinical data and communicate their significance effectively to healthcare professionals and other stakeholders.
- Provide field insights to internal business partners regarding clinical practices, customer needs, account dynamics, and opportunities within assigned institutions.
- Demonstrate leadership through collaboration, example, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
- Manage the financial performance of the assigned territory and contribute to effective resource allocation.
- Participate in business planning meetings, disease awareness initiatives, professional society activities, and other commercial programs as assigned.
- Support patient education meetings, virtual clinic engagements, account team calls, and other remote-selling activities.
- Maintain compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Travel throughout the assigned multi-state territory to support customer relationships, account development, and business objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 5–7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
- At least 3–5 years of experience in biotechnology or specialty sales involving high-cost products.
- Strong experience managing complex customer relationships and developing strategic account or territory plans.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and customer-management skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders, follow through on commitments, and adapt effectively to changing business environments.
- Goal-oriented approach with the ability to establish ambitious but achievable objectives and track progress against them.
- Ability to communicate effectively through virtual meeting and collaboration platforms as well as in person.
- Strong leadership and influencing skills, including the ability to collaborate across teams without formal authority.
- Advanced educational qualifications or additional healthcare experience are preferred.
- Experience selling within hospitals and academic institutions is highly desirable.
- Experience with orphan-disease products and new product launches is highly desirable.
- Willingness and ability to travel overnight approximately 60–80%, depending on territory geography and business needs.
- Remote selling capabilities are required.
- The territory includes Washington, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri. Ideal locations include Colorado, Wisconsin, or Minnesota.
