Job Description

Epworth Food Svc Driver

Reports to the Nutritional Supervisor. Assembles food trays and delivers food and supplies from Epworth kitchen and transports to designated locations. Loads and unloads vehicle at each site. Performs various kitchen duties such as cleaning, dishwashing, stocking, and light food prep.

Performs other functions to maintain personal competence and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department by:

  • Completing other job-related duties and projects as assigned.

Transports food and supplies by:

  • Delivering food and supplies according to established schedule and communicating with designated individuals regarding unexpected delays.
  • Ensuring proper handling and storage of food and supplies in the vehicle to prevent damage during transport.
  • Loading and unloading food and supplies and transporting to appropriate location.
  • Checking vehicle, controls, fuel content, etc. on a daily basis and cleaning vehicle as directed.
  • Performing minor maintenance and delivering the vehicle for repair if needed.
  • Maintaining accurate driving logs and providing documentation for all fuel purchases.

Prepares and delivers patient meals following applicable sanitary standards by:

  • Setting up the steam table with prepared foods.
  • Portioning hot and cold foods according to patient diet orders.
  • Preparing food items that are onsite including washing fruits and vegetables, making coffee, salads, toast etc.
  • Placing dishware, disposables and food on trays.
  • Transporting food carts to patient dining areas.
  • Gather and deliver snacks and nourishments.
  • Delivering floor supplies to units daily, or as needed.

Performs dishwashing and cleaning duties by:

  • Obtaining and washing all food service items, i.e., pots, pans, and utensils and returning same to proper storage areas. Set up/maintain three compartment sinks.
  • Following up and checking on established amount of soap and maintaining proper temperature of water in the dish machine.
  • Emptying, cleaning and sanitizing dish machine after each meal.
  • Performing cleaning of work areas including steam tables and kitchen equipment.
  • Sweeping and/or mopping and removing garbage form dishwashing and kitchen areas.
  • Completing all sanitation schedules in assigned areas.

Performs a variety of general kitchen duties as assigned by:

  • Pulling tray tickets to determine number and required food for trays.
  • Maintaining an inventory of designated food and materials onsite.
  • Checking and logging temperatures and other needed documentation.
  • Cleaning specific work areas and equipment as assigned. i.e., food pantries, cleaning sheet, performs light prep and serving of meals. May operate basic kitchen equipment.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

  • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
  • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
  • Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
  • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
  • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR), and other certifications as required by position/department.
  • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
  • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
  • Complies with established organization and department policies.
  • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

Education and Experience

  • The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Must be a minimum of 17 years of age. Previous customer service experience in a food service environment is preferred. Candidates must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must maintain a valid driver's license and good driving record and have the ability to drive a vehicle safely for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the verbal and written communication skills necessary to follow instructions in order to perform routine tasks and the ability to read and write legibly.
  • Ability to learn food service standards and special diets, such as portioning, allergies, sanitation, hygiene, etc.
  • Requires the interpersonal skills necessary to consistently interact with patrons and staff in a courteous manner and to maintain positive working relationships.
  • Requires the motor coordination necessary to serve food, handle dishes and manipulate various cleaning supplies.

  • Requires the physical and stamina (i.e., ability to stoop, reach and lift equipment and supplies; and lift 30 lbs) to perform the essential functions of the position.

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to various weather conditions while driving and making stops on assigned route.
  • Exposure to noise and heat in food service area.
  • Requires flexibility with work schedule to cover days, evenings and weekends.

Physical Demands

  • Requires the physical and stamina (i.e., ability to stoop, reach and lift equipment and supplies; and lift 30 lbs) to perform the essential functions of the position.
