Accountabilities:

The Deputy Editor will manage high-impact editorial activities by applying scientific expertise, strong decision-making, and a deep understanding of academic publishing standards. This role requires independent ownership of manuscript evaluation, content strategy, stakeholder collaboration, and continuous improvement of editorial processes.

  • Review submitted manuscripts to assess scientific quality, relevance, originality, and alignment with journal scope.
  • Manage the full peer review process, including reviewer selection, invitations, feedback evaluation, and editorial decisions.
  • Make informed publication decisions, including acceptance, rejection, revision requests, and manuscript transfers.
  • Identify and escalate publication ethics, integrity, or compliance concerns following established procedures.
  • Evaluate revised submissions and author responses to ensure quality and completeness.
  • Commission new content such as review articles, special issues, and other scholarly materials.
  • Build relationships with researchers, authors, and academic communities to strengthen journal visibility and submissions.
  • Collaborate with editorial leadership to refine journal strategy, scope, and development initiatives.
  • Analyze editorial performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve workflows and processes.
  • Support editorial projects, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and cross-functional collaborations.
  • Mentor junior editors and provide guidance on editorial practices, decision-making, and peer review standards.
  • Represent the publication within scientific communities through conferences, webinars, and professional events.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings advanced academic expertise in AI or intelligent systems, experience with scholarly publishing, and the ability to make thoughtful editorial decisions. Strong analytical skills, communication abilities, and a commitment to research quality are essential for success in this role.

  • PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Systems, Computer Science, or a related research field.
  • Proven experience in academic publishing, editorial roles, manuscript review, or scholarly content management.
  • Strong understanding of peer review processes, publication ethics, and research integrity standards.
  • Demonstrated subject-matter expertise within a relevant scientific domain.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple manuscripts, priorities, and deadlines independently.
  • Experience engaging with researchers, authors, reviewers, and academic communities.
  • Experience commissioning scientific content and supporting journal growth initiatives.
  • Ability to interpret performance metrics and use data to improve editorial outcomes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
