About the Opportunity:
If you enjoy working with food in a fast-paced, team-oriented, aromatic environment this position for you! Come be a part of our food services team preparing daily meals for JCC program participants. In the summer, you may have the chance to explore the retail side to food service working in the J Café where you will prepare food, beverages and snacks as ordered by café guests and process payment quickly and accurately.
This role is part-time. Monday-Friday, 8a-1p.
What you’ll be doing:
- Prepare food following safe food handling procedures and kashrut (kosher) dietary rules
- Support the team by being at work, when scheduled and on time, each time
- Maintain a clean kitchen, storage and work area
- Let the Director know when inventory level is running low (or high)
- Be safe when using kitchen equipment – some things are sharp, other things are hot
- Be neat and maintain a clean work space – messiness will gross diners out
- Be a gracious host to café guests through friendliness, accuracy in food order and payment processing
What you bring to the table:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Food and/or customer service experience preferred
- Ability to learn proper food handling procedures and kashrut (kosher) food practices
- Ability to handle cash and count/make change
- Good attendance is an absolute – gotta show up to do this job – your teammates and café guests depend on you
- Must present an appropriate image including friendly attitude, good personal hygiene and professional appearance, and desire to serve the public

Work Environment:
The work environment can be fast-paced at times and requires high energy and lots of interaction with JCC members, staff and members of the community. Physical demands include working in a commercial kitchen and using various equipment needed prepare, serve, and deliver food, beverages and snacks. Position requires standing, walking, reaching overhead, bending, and lifting up to 30 lbs. May be exposed to high air temperatures, humidity, cleaning agents.
