Job Description
The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of students, conducting pre-trip and post-trip inspections, performing basic maintenance, and maintaining accurate daily reports. Key duties include adherence to traffic laws, ensuring student safety on the bus, managing passenger behavior, and handling student disabilities. The role requires a valid driver's license, knowledge of Maryland transportation laws, and the ability to manage students effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Safe Transportation:

Safely transport students to and from school, field trips, and other educational activities.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance:
.
Conduct daily inspections of the bus to check tires, lights, and other systems, and perform basic preventive maintenance.
Safety & Discipline:
.
Ensure children wear seatbelts and safety belts, assist students with disabilities, and maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus.
Route & Schedule Management:
.
Follow established routes and schedules, adjust for traffic and detours, and communicate any issues to supervisors.
Record Keeping:
.
Maintain daily vehicle reports, record student information, and submit accident and traffic delay reports accurately.
Emergency Procedures:
.
Develop and follow emergency evacuation plans for all students, especially those with disabilities.
Communication:
.
Effectively communicate with students, parents, and school officials to resolve problems and ensure smooth transportation.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
21 years of age or older
Valid Maryland CDL driver's license with a Passenger (P) and School Bus (s) endorsement and a clean record.
Ability to pass a health exam.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Knowledge of Maryland vehicle codes, rules, and regulations.
Ability to operate school buses with manual and automatic transmissions and an air brake endorsement.
Ability to read maps and street signs.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain records and complete required forms.
Ability to perform basic math calculations.
