Responsibilities

The RN Infection Control Specialist supports patient and staff safety by leading infection prevention and control activities, including surveillance, education, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures evidence-based practices are implemented to reduce healthcare-associated infections and maintain accreditation standards. Performs other duties as assigned. All job responsibilities are to be carried out in alignment with Kettering Health's mission, vision, values, and B Safe program.

Job Requirements

Education Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution Preferred Education: Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field Work Experience Required Work Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience Preferred Work Experience: Experience in infection prevention and control or epidemiology Licenses, Certifications and Registrations Required Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Ohio Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Preferred Licenses, Certifications, and Registrations: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), or ability to obtain within 2 years of hire

Skills Knowledge of infection prevention principles and epidemiology Ability to analyze and interpret infection data Strong verbal and written communication skills Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), preferably Epic Ability to educate and train staff on infection control practices Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities Familiarity with regulatory standards (CDC, OSHA, Joint Commission) Collaboration and interdisciplinary teamwork Essential Functions Conducts ongoing surveillance and analysis of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) using established methodologies and EHR tools. Develops, implements, and evaluates infection prevention and control policies and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements. Provides education and training to staff on infection prevention practices, including PPE use, hand hygiene, and isolation protocols. Investigates suspected outbreaks of infection, identifies sources, and implements control measures to prevent further transmission. Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to assess and mitigate infection risks related to construction, renovation, and environmental factors. Prepares and submits required infection control reports to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Conducts audits and rounds to monitor compliance with infection prevention standards and recommends corrective actions as needed. Participates in regulatory and accreditation surveys, ensuring readiness and compliance with standards set by agencies such as the Joint Commission and OSHA. Maintains current knowledge of evidence-based infection prevention practices and integrates new information into program activities. Ensures patient and staff confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
