Description: The Data Solutions Architect will support data modeling, integration, and business intelligence efforts within a government technology environment. This role will focus on analyzing data from multiple legacy systems and authoritative systems of record to help develop a common data model that supports consistent use of data across the environment. The selected candidate will work closely with developers, analysts, and project stakeholders to understand existing schemas, data relationships, business rules, and dependencies; develop and refine conceptual, logical, and physical data models; and establish mappings and transformation requirements between source data and the common model. The position will support data migration and integration activities within SQL and Azure-based data environments, including validating data quality, transformation results, relationships, and model accuracy as designs are implemented. This is a hands-on technical role that also supports adjacent data and business intelligence efforts, including solutions using Power BI and Microsoft Power Platform. The ideal candidate will be able to understand how data is structured within existing systems, translate functional and reporting needs into effective data models, and work with technical teams to carry those designs through validation and physical implementation.
Core Responsibilities:
- Analyze legacy systems and authoritative data sources to understand existing data structures, relationships, business rules, data flows, interfaces, and dependencies.
- Develop and document conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including relational structures, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, and data lineage.
- Support the development of a common data model across multiple source systems, identifying opportunities to standardize data structures, definitions, relationships, and business rules.
- Work with development teams to translate approved data models into physical database structures and support data integration, ETL/ELT, migration, validation, reconciliation, and data quality activities within SQL and Azure environments.
- Develop and support database views, standardized datasets, and other data structures used by applications, Power BI, Power Platform, interfaces, and analytical solutions.
- Collaborate with technical and functional stakeholders to validate model designs and implemented solutions, document decisions and dependencies, and communicate data-related risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations.
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Architecture, Software Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
- 10 or more years of experience in database architecture, data modeling, data engineering, systems integration, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of experience in a data architect, database architect, lead data modeler, or technical lead role within a complex enterprise environment.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including relational database design, stored procedures, views, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience developing logical and physical data models, entity-relationship diagrams, data dictionaries, source-to-target mappings, and transformation specifications.
- Experience designing ETL/ELT workflows, automated validation, reconciliation, exception handling, and data-quality controls.
- Experience with Azure data and integration services, APIs, cloud technologies, or comparable enterprise integration platforms.
- Experience supporting data consumed by reporting tools, business applications, analytical platforms, or Microsoft Power Platform capabilities.
- Strong technical writing, coordination, briefing, and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- Ability to clearly speak, read, and write in English; U.S. citizenship and ability to pass and maintain required background investigation and system access.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting federal, defense, or other regulated enterprise environments.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems with overlapping data, business rules, interfaces, and operational dependencies.
- Experience with Azure API Management, Azure Service Bus, Logic Apps, Dataverse, or comparable integration and orchestration technologies.
- Familiarity with data governance, cybersecurity, configuration management, change control, and release-management processes.
- Experience using Jira or similar tools to manage technical backlogs, dependencies, risks, and development increments.
- Experience with DoD Real Property programs, business processes, data, or supporting information systems, including familiarity with installation-level Real Property management and related data environments.
- Active clearance or current eligibility for access to restricted systems and environments.
