Job Description

Position Summary

The Test and Commissioning Engineer supports the testing, inspection, troubleshooting, and commissioning of commuter rail vehicles. The position works with technicians, managers, engineers, customers, and suppliers to complete testing activities and document results. Railroad experience is preferred but is not required; project-specific training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the preparation and coordination of test and commissioning schedules and daily work plans.
  • Perform or assist with static and dynamic testing of passenger rail vehicles in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Review test results, identify issues, and report progress or problems to the T and C Manager.
  • Provide technicians with work instructions and confirm that assigned testing and corrective work has been completed.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting and coordinate technical support with engineering teams when needed.
  • Prepare test records, issue lists, progress reports, and other project documentation.
  • Coordinate with MBTA, WSP, contractors, and other project personnel regarding testing, inspections, and vehicle readiness.
  • Discuss defective materials with suppliers, track responses, and coordinate follow-up actions.
  • Maintain basic records for parts, materials, equipment, and test activities.
  • Support general office duties, administrative coordination, and material management as needed.
  • Follow all company, railroad, site, and personal protective equipment safety requirements.
  • Perform other project support duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering field is required.
  • Experience in equipment testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, manufacturing, quality inspection, or a related technical role is preferred.
  • Railroad or rolling stock experience is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to follow test procedures, organize results, and prepare clear reports.
  • Practical problem-solving skills and willingness to learn rail vehicle systems.
  • Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with technicians, engineers, customers, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate in English in a technical work environment.
Work Environment
  • Work is performed in both office and rail maintenance or testing environments.
  • The position may require standing, walking, climbing steps, bending, and working inside or around rail vehicles.
  • Required safety rules and personal protective equipment must be followed at all times.
