Job Description:

The Database & Cloud Data Architect will define and govern ELLKAY’s database, data-modeling, cloud data architecture, and data-management standards. This role will ensure that the shared Data Platform, Data Lake, migration solutions, and product data stores are scalable, secure, performant, governed, and aligned with ELLKAY’s target cloud architecture.

The Architect will work across AWS, Snowflake, relational databases, analytical platforms, and product-specific data stores. This is a senior hands-on architecture role responsible for defining standards while helping engineering teams implement them successfully.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Define the enterprise database and cloud data architecture for the shared Data Platform.
• Develop logical, conceptual, and physical data models for core healthcare and platform domains.
• Establish standards for relational, analytical, operational, and cloud-native data stores.
• Define appropriate usage patterns for Snowflake, Amazon RDS or Aurora, object storage, caching, search, NoSQL, and other approved data technologies.
• Design raw, standardized, curated, semantic, and product-serving data layers.
• Define database design, naming, schema-management, indexing, partitioning, clustering, and performance standards.
• Establish data lifecycle, retention, archival, deletion, backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery patterns.
• Define data security standards, including encryption, access controls, masking, tokenization, auditability, and PHI protection.
• Develop canonical data models and reusable domain patterns that reduce incompatible product-specific schemas.
• Guide migration from legacy and on-premises databases to approved AWS and cloud data platforms.
• Define database modernization and migration patterns, including validation, reconciliation, rollback, and cutover controls.
• Review and approve critical database and data-platform designs.
• Partner with Product Architecture, Data Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Security, Governance, Migration, and application teams.
• Identify database performance, reliability, data-integrity, and cost risks and define remediation plans.
• Create reference architectures, decision records, modeling standards, and architecture review checklists.
• Maintain sufficient hands-on depth to build proofs of concept and support teams with complex database or data-modeling issues.

Qualifications:

• Deep experience in database and enterprise data architecture.
• Strong logical and physical data-modeling capabilities.
• Experience with AWS, Snowflake, and cloud database modernization.
• Strong knowledge of database performance, security, resilience, backup, recovery, and cost optimization.
• Experience designing governed data platforms and enterprise data models.
• Ability to influence multiple engineering teams through architecture standards and technical leadership.
• Healthcare data, interoperability, or regulated-data experience is preferred.
