Systems Engineer (OLED) - Senior (Hybrid) in Plymouth, Michigan at Mobis North American LLC

COMPANY OVERVIEW: MOBIS Technical Center of North America is a Research & Development center, and a Tier 1 supplier. POSITION OVERVIEW: Systems Engineer (OLED) specializing in automotive display systems, with expertise in optical design, display module development, performance evaluation, and manufacturing support. Skilled in failure analysis, measurement system setup, EOL process implementation, and CAD tools such as NX and CATIA. Proven ability to collaborate with OEMs, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to develop advanced display technologies, translate customer requirements into technical solutions, and drive product performance from concept through production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS

Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Analyze customer and internal requirements and specifications and translate these into optical designs.
• Evaluation and measurement system setup.
• Understand design and manufacturing of display modules and components.
• Field failure analysis and solution evaluation for production/product issues.
• Comfortable working with various CAD interfaces, including NX and CATIA.
• EOL (End of Line) setup for display manufacturing.
• New technology development with Tier 2 suppliers for automotive displays, including POLED, Quantum Dot, FALD, etc.
• Work on-site at MNA and frequently off-site at OEM facilities.
• Collaborate between internal engineering teams and external customers.
• Support discussions with customers regarding future product definitions, requirement refinements, and issue resolutions to maximize system performance.
• “Boots-on-the-ground” working-level approach.
• Takes design ownership of the product.
• Proposes solutions instead of only presenting issues.
• Self-starter, motivated, with listening, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and explain technical decisions clearly.
• Adaptability to work with overseas HQ, including participating in nightly discussions and navigating cross-cultural communication styles.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

• B.S., M.S., or PhD related to Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred.
• ~10+ years of experience in OLED design or working in the automotive industry with a focus on Display Technology.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Expertise-level knowledge in display technology including, but not limited to OLED, TFT, FALD, and Edge-lit.
• Previous automotive engineering experience at a Tier 1 Supplier.
• Experience with OLED optical system design and analysis using design tools such as CodeV, LightTools, SPEOS, or Zemax.
• Experience with evaluation and measurement of OLED optical performance, including distortion, disparity, brightness, uniformity, etc.
• Experience with spectrometer and luminance meter.
• Experience with mechanical layout design based on Car 3D data.
• Tolerance analysis for display components and vehicle interior.
• Design-level OLED Engineering experience with Major OEMs.
• International joint work experience.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

• Dynamic, “fluid” work structure that varies day-by-day.
• Constant and consistent interfacing with the customer.
• Rapid response for on-site customer issues within 3 days’ notice.
• Freedom and autonomy to make independent decisions about how you do your best work.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports to: Engineering Manager of Infotainment Displays.
• Product/System: Automotive HUD, ICS, Display, etc.
• Work and communicate with local customers, local team members, and research engineers from Korea and/or in Korea. Projects may accompany HQ research engineers remotely or on the business site.
• Consult with Expatriate Coordinator to enhance communication with R&D HQ.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
• Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

• A typical work week is 45 hours/week.
• Working hours for employees are flexible with a typical day starting 7am- 9am M-F.
• Hybrid work schedule- 3 days on site required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Office work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unpleasant elements.
