Job Description

The Part-Time Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation assists the Director in the planning, coordination, administration, and delivery of the Town's parks, recreation programs, community events, and related services. The position provides administrative and operational support to ensure programs and facilities are safe, accessible, well-organized, and responsive to community needs.
The Assistant Director works closely with Town staff, community organizations, volunteers, vendors, program participants, and the public. The position may assume responsibility for departmental operations in the Director's absence, as assigned.

•Assists the Director with the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of recreation programs, special events, and community activities.
•Coordinates assigned recreational programs, activities, facility use, and special events from planning through completion.
•Assists with the scheduling and coordination of Town parks, recreational facilities, and community spaces.
•Provides support for Town-sponsored festivals, community events, recreational activities, and seasonal programs.
•Assists with the recruitment, scheduling, training, and oversight of part-time and seasonal employees, instructors, contractors, and volunteers.
•Responds to questions and concerns from residents, program participants, community organizations, and facility users.
•Assists with preparing program materials, public notices, social media content, flyers, and other promotional materials.
•Supports registration, reservation, and payment processes associated with recreation programs and facility use.
•Assists the Director with departmental purchasing, invoices, contracts, and expenditure tracking in accordance with Town policies.
•Maintains accurate records related to programs, facilities, participation, incidents, expenditures, and departmental activities.
•Assists with monitoring the condition, cleanliness, safety, and accessibility of parks and recreational facilities and reports maintenance needs to the appropriate department.
•Coordinates with other Town departments, community organizations, vendors, and outside agencies in support of departmental programs and events.
•Assists with identifying grant opportunities, sponsorships, partnerships, and other resources that support parks and recreation initiatives.
•Provides on-site support and supervision for special events and programs, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
•Assists in ensuring programs and activities comply with applicable Town policies, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
•May serve as the department's point of contact or oversee departmental activities in the Director's absence when designated.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.

•High school diploma or GED required.
•Associate degree or coursework in parks and recreation, public administration, business administration, event management, or a related field preferred.
•Two years of progressively responsible experience in parks and recreation, event coordination, community programming, customer service, or a related field preferred.
•An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
•Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

•Knowledge of the principles and practices of parks and recreation programming and administration.
•Ability to plan and coordinate multiple programs, activities, and special events.
•Strong organizational and time-management skills.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, residents, elected officials, community organizations, vendors, volunteers, and the general public.
•Ability to exercise sound judgment and handle routine problems independently.
•Ability to provide effective customer service and respond professionally to concerns or complaints.
•Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare basic reports and correspondence.
•Ability to use standard office technology, including Microsoft Office applications, email, online registration systems, and social media platforms.
•Ability to work independently while operating within established Town policies and under the general direction of the Director.
