Job Description

The Managing Director (MD) is the front-line owner of the client relationship and the growth engine of Addicus Consulting Group. Unlike a traditional director who oversees delivery from behind the scenes, the MD is personally in front of the client — landing new business, setting the strategic course of each engagement, and owning the outcome when something goes wrong. The MD sells the work and drives the team to deliver it, turning first-phase engagements into long-term, expanding relationships built on trust.

This is a seat defined by ownership. The MD carries the P&L for their book of clients, travels to become each client’s confidant and trusted advisor, and is ultimately accountable for the quality of the work product their team produces. Standing up the MD model also takes institutional knowledge off any single person’s desk: the MD builds and develops the Relationship Managers beneath them so expertise, and the client relationship itself, can scale.
The Results This Seat Owns:
A book of client relationships that grows in revenue and trust.

What You Will Own:

Client Relationship & Trust

- Relationship Ownership — own each client relationship end-to-end and become the person the client calls first when something matters.
- Client Presence & Travel — travel to see clients in person; being in front of the client is core to the job, not an occasional exception.
- Strategic Course-Setting — set the strategy, cadence, timelines, and deliverables of every engagement, aligned to the client’s actual objectives.
- Issue Ownership — when something is not right, own it personally with the client and drive the resolution rather than escalating it away.

New Business & Growth

- Landing New Clients — bring in and land new clients; run prospect meetings and sales trips and convert Phase I engagements into full relationships.
- Reselling & Expansion — resell and expand work when a client gets nervous or an outside advisor gets in the way; continually surface new opportunities within each client’s wealth enterprise.
- Pipeline Partnership — work with Business Development to keep a qualified pipeline moving and to assign the Relationship Manager for the final sales meeting.
- Revenue Ownership — own the P&L for your book; drive revenue and retention and forecast performance with firm leadership.

Engagement Leadership & Handoff

- Scope Definition — define the scope of work and hand it to Business Development for drafting; provide direction during pre-kickoff prep.
- Kickoff & Direction — attend the kickoff call and set the initial timeline and strategy; meet with the RM to revise and approve the plan, including whether outside resources are needed.
- Work-Product Accountability — remain ultimately accountable for the success and quality of the work product; review final deliverables for alignment to client goals.
- Building the Bench — grow and develop Relationship Managers so the model scales beyond any one person — teach the next person so expertise no longer runs through a single individual.

What We Are Looking For:

Required:
- 10+ years in tax, accounting, finance, law, or a closely related advisory discipline serving high- and ultra-high-net-worth (H/UHNW) clients and families
- Proven success owning senior client relationships and personally driving new business and revenue growth
- Deep command of tax and financial strategy — trusts and estates, pass-through entities (subchapter K), entity structuring, and wealth planning — with the judgment to guide complex client situations
- Executive presence and relational fluency; able to serve as a client’s trusted advisor and to close and expand work
- Willingness and ability to travel to clients regularly
- Leadership experience building and driving teams (Relationship Managers, Analysts, Coordinators) to deliver high-quality work on time
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; can present solutions and translate complexity into clear, actionable guidance
- High integrity and strict discretion when handling sensitive client and firm information
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Preferred:
- CPA, JD, LL.M. (Tax), MST/MTax, MBA, CFA, or comparable advanced credential; post-graduate degree with a tax focus
- Active, relevant industry credential
- Securities and/or insurance licenses
- Experience with advanced planning structures (GRATs, SLATs, IDGTs, charitable strategies, closely held business restructuring)
- Background supporting transactions — buy/sell-side, liquidity events, restructuring — and translating tax impacts into financial outcomes
- Familiarity with eMoney, WealthTec, or MoneyGuide and the Microsoft 365 / Dynamics suite
