Job Description
Under the direct supervision of the Site Administrator, the Teacher is responsible for the planning, preparation, and supervision of the classroom learning environment. There are another two openings on different Head Start locations: Christiansburg and Fairlawn.
See primary duties below:
1. Plans, coordinates, and implements a developmentally appropriate classroom-based program for three to five-year-old children using the approved curricula and evidence-based practices.
2. Prepares daily lesson plans and provides activities and experiences that encourage skills appropriate to the developmental and learning styles of each child.
3. Develops home and school goals for each child and completes required home visits and parent/teacher conferences.
4. Completes required screenings and ongoing assessments of young children's development according to established time frames and following approved policies and procedures.
5. Actively recruits new families for the program.
6. Responsible for guiding quality within the classroom. Provides support and guidance to other classroom staff, substitutes, and volunteers as needed to implement best practice within the classroom.
Must:
Be willing to work in the homes of families residing in high-risk communities.
Be willing to abide by the Code of Conduct.
Be capable of lifting to 50 pounds, walking, bending, and standing, occasionally lifting up to 80 pounds.
Maintain regular attendance and being responsible for securing a classroom substitute.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate degree in Early Childhood or a related field and 2 years’ experience working with children. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Hourly, full-time (40 hours per week), 10-month position (academic calendar).
NRCA conducts pre-employment criminal background checks, including fingerprints, child abuse and neglect, and driving record. Possession of a valid driver's license and a good driving record is required. Pre-employment drug testing, TB test/screening, and employment physical are also required.
