At Merrimack Health, we are committed to pay transparency and equity. The base salary range is $148.06 - $207.28 hour, excluding fringe benefits and potential bonuses.

Your final base salary will be determined based on your education, experience, licensure, and internal equity considerations. Offers are typically made below the top of the range to support future salary growth.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) provides leadership and vision for the strategic development, successful implementation and management of information resources and technology in alignment with the mission, values, goals and business objectives of the organization. The CIO leads the IS and Telecommunications departments and is responsible for planning, development, implementation, maintenance and continuing enhancement of all applications, communication technology and hardware. As a member of the leadership team, the CIO formulates plans for maximizing the use of information technology in support of business objectives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and maintains an Information Technology Strategic Plan that aligns with the organization’s goals and leverages modern technology within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Serves as a key advisor to the executive team as it relates to information and communication strategies and plans.
  • Responsible for managing IT financial resources to ensure cost efficiency, effective allocation and mitigation of financial risk.
  • Develops strategies and guides the organization in establishing direction and identifying future opportunities based on clear values, high performance expectations and internal/external customer focus.
  • Chairs the IT Steering Committee and participates in compliance and regulatory oversight.
  • Prepares a reasonable budget for review by the Chief Financial Officer to include the priorities identified by the Leadership and IT Steering Committee and provides a case for approval to include impact/risk to the organization.
  • Operates the organization’s data center and communications network to provide uninterrupted services to the users and meet established service level agreements.
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of the organization’s key financial indicators relative to IT operations and ensures accurate interpretation and application for IT related decision-making.
  • Leads and maintains high performing team capabilities with strong technical expertise and forward-thinking innovation to deliver customer focused technology services and continuous improvement of advanced high-quality IT service delivery.
  • Develops and deploys staffing plans and initiatives to maintain established and targeted service levels.
  • Maintains a collaborative relationship with all levels of the organization to promote an open line of communication for problem resolution.
  • Anticipates, proposes and implements opportunities to use new technology to improve patient outcomes and the financial position of the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with healthcare regulations and maintaining the security and confidentiality of Hospital System and patient data.

EDUCATION AND RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Hospital Administration or Information Services, or related field.
  • 10 - 15 years hospital system Information Systems Management experience, including the implementation of major clinical and financial applications.
  • Current understanding of state-of-the-art Hospital Systems’ Information Systems and Telecommunications.
  • Experience with Meditech or similar enterprise clinical systems.
  • Knowledge of privacy and confidentiality regulations and ability to operate effectively in a highly regulated environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills emphasizing innovation, communication, team development, and effective resource management.
  • Proven ability to adapt to changing conditions and incorporate change into operational performance.
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, manage multiple projects, and exercise sound, confidential judgment.
  • High degree of professionalism with the ability to listen, influence, and build strong working relationships.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Hospital Administration or Information Services, or related field.
  • Executive-level IT leadership experience within a healthcare setting.
