Job Description

SCOPE OF POSITION:

Develops, organizes, and conducts individualized exercise programs for cardiac patients to improve cardiovascular fitness and encourage home-based exercise continuation.

  1. The exercise physiologist is responsible for coordinating a multidisciplinary treatment plan to meet the clinical and educational needs of heart patients, families, and patients at risk for cardiovascular disease.
  2. Complete needs assessment on referred patients to develop a multidisciplinary treatment plan which includes exercise, risk factor intervention, and psychosocial needs.
  3. Evaluate hemodynamic, electrocardiographic, and symptomatic response to exercise and assess appropriateness of responses and exercise intensity.
  4. Recommend clinically appropriate exercise and facilitate risk factor modification treatment plan for patients with multiple cardiovascular risk factors.
  5. Provide clinical supervision of patients in group exercise classes.
  6. Performs all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 3 months of employment.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least one year in the current field or completion of an internship in a related field. New graduates would be considered.

  3. Excellent interpersonal skills with the capability to interact with patients and other healthcare professionals.
  4. Ability to use initiative and independent judgment.
  5. Skill to adapt to frequent changes in volume of work.
  6. Proficiency to function effectively in a team environment.
