About the role

PastryStar, a manufacturer of premium bakery ingredients, is seeking a hands-on and organized Maintenance Mechanic – 2nd Shift is responsible for performing preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance to ensure production equipment and facilities remain safe, reliable, and fully operational.

This is a hands-on technical role that plays a critical part in supporting overnight production, safety compliance, and equipment reliability.

What you'll do

  • Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on production and facility equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and production emergencies in a timely manner
  • Support weekend, shutdown, and special maintenance activities as needed
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations (LOTO, PPE, confined spaces, working at heights)
  • Assist with installation, testing, and commissioning of new equipment
  • Identify recurring equipment issues and participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Complete work orders accurately using CMMS and document repairs and parts used
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of maintenance areas and tools
  • Assist in monitoring spare parts inventory
  • Work collaboratively with Production, QA, and Engineering teams
  • Follow all GMP, food safety, and sanitation requirements
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 5-10 years of sanitation experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role preferred
  • Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Food safety standards (FDA, FSMA)
  • Allergen control procedures
  • Cleaning and sanitation chemicals, tools, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Food production equipment (mixers, kettles, tanks, blenders, etc.)
  • Dry mix and liquid production areas
  • Common areas such as restrooms, breakrooms, and kitchens
  • Ability to follow Master Sanitation Schedules and complete sanitation logs accurately
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Ability to train and lead a small sanitation team
  • Good communication skills; bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Computer skills
  • Stand, bend, and climb for long periods
  • Work in wet, humid, or temperature-controlled environments
  • Willingness to wear required PPE at all times (gloves, goggles, boots, etc.)

Technical degree or certification in:

  • Mechanics
  • Electricity
  • Electromechanics
  • Industrial Maintenance
  • Related technical field (preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum 3–4 years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Experience working independently on night shift preferred

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices including LOTO, confined spaces, and proper PPE usage
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent repairs and production support needs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a GMP-regulated or food manufacturing environment
  • Welding, millwright, or multi-craft maintenance experience
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), or 5S principles
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting experience (preferred but not required)

Industry Certifications (Preferred)

  • CMRT – Certified Maintenance & Reliability Technician from Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals — Focuses on preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability best practices commonly used in manufacturing environments.
  • CMRP – Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional — Advanced certification often held by senior technicians or maintenance leaders.
  • Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Certification from National Center for Construction Education and Research or similar credentials such as those from National Institute for Metalworking Skills — Demonstrates hands-on competency in mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and industrial maintenance. Pay: $32.00 - $38.00 per hour
