Job Description

Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to support and strengthen safety performance across our commercial construction projects. This role partners with field and corporate teams to ensure OSHA compliance, conduct safety audits, deliver training programs, reduce project risk, and promote a strong safety culture.

The Safety Manager serves as a trusted resource to project managers, superintendents, and project safety officers while helping ensure all projects operate safely and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities

Safety Leadership & Compliance
  • Conduct jobsite safety audits and field observations.
  • Assist project teams in developing Job Specific Safety Plans.
  • Provide guidance on OSHA compliance and hazard mitigation.
  • Support OSHA inspections and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain project safety files, logs, signage, and equipment.
  • Partner with project teams to identify and address safety concerns before work begins.
  • Provide technical safety support to project leadership.
  • Attend and support project safety meetings.

Training & Development
  • Deliver and support safety training programs.
  • Assist with employee safety certifications and training records.
  • Participate in company and industry training initiatives.
  • Support safety recognition and incentive programs.

Risk Management
  • Assist with incident investigations and reporting.
  • Support claims management and return-to-work programs.
  • Maintain OSHA, workers' compensation, and accident records.
  • Review subcontractor insurance compliance.
  • Utilize safety technology and reporting tools to support project performance.

Required Knowledge, Experience, Special Skills
  • At least three (3) years of experience in applying safety procedures (i.e., manuals, audits, reports, checklists) for a general contractor subcontractor, or related engineering or environmental consulting firm
  • OSHA 30 Certification a must, OSHA 500 Certification a plus.
  • Experience working within the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and other federal, state, local or special customer regulations that govern building construction and general contractor safety requirements.
  • Must have a good driving record that is clear of excessive and/or habitual traffic violations, points or accidents.
  • Safety Trained Supervisor Certification, Construction Site Safety Technician or equivalent (STS or CSST) required

Wage Transparency

In accordance with the Maryland Wage Transparency Law, the base salary range for this position is: $90,000.00 - $130,000.00

Coakley & Williams Construction offers a comprehensive total compensation and benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision coverage, employer-matched 401(k), paid time off and holidays, performance-based bonuses, wellness program, and other voluntary benefits and leave types. The determination of salary is based on the candidate's individual professional experience, qualification, education, skills, and training.

Job Demands

Individuals should be able to reach above and below, stoop and bend, sit, walk, and stand. Individuals should also be able to lift, carry and/or moving items up to 50lbs. May be exposed to heavy machinery/equipment, hazardous chemicals and extreme weather conditions. Minimum of 40 hours per week required. Works hours will vary depending on project specifications and may involve weekends and night work.
