Job Description

Summary

The Lineman position is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of electrical systems and equipment in industrial environments. This position works with low, medium, power distribution equipment, motor controls, instrumentation, and related electrical components while maintaining compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electrical distribution, transmission, or industrial pole line construction.
  • Experience installing and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems.
  • Experience with pole framing, conductor installation, rigging, and line construction methods.
  • Experience performing medium-voltage terminations and cable installations preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Ability to pass required drug screening, background checks, and site-specific requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of overhead electrical distribution systems and pole line construction practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment efficiently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices related to energized equipment, lockout/tagout procedures, and electrical hazard recognition.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair overhead electrical systems, power lines, lighting systems, and associated equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Safely operate bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and other elevated work platforms to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair overhead electrical systems and equipment.
  • Perform work at elevated heights while adhering to all fall protection and safety requirements.
  • Inspect, maintain, and operate bucket trucks and associated equipment in accordance with company procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Install, remove, and repair overhead power lines, lighting systems, cable, and electrical components utilizing bucket truck access.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections and document any equipment deficiencies or maintenance concerns.
  • Install and terminate conduit, cable trays, wiring, motors, transformers, switchgear, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain instrumentation and control systems as required.
  • Perform voltage testing and verify proper operation of electrical components.
  • Assist with startup, commissioning, and energization of electrical systems.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb throughout the workday.
  • Regularly climb ladders, structures, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
  • Ability to work at significant heights from bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and other elevated equipment.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements involving the hands, arms, shoulders, and back.
  • Ability to reach overhead and work in awkward or confined positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and recognize visual indicators used in electrical wiring and equipment.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, electrical testing equipment, and precision instruments.
  • Ability to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, arc-flash protective clothing, fall protection gear, and respiratory protection when required.
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, and emergency call-outs as business needs dictate.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles, bucket trucks, and other heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, humidity, cold, rain, wind, and other weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
    • hard hat, safety glasses, face shield, gloves, hearing protection, FR clothing, steel-toed footwear, FR clothing, fall protection and other project-specific PPE.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in industrial construction, maintenance, utility, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, and commercial environments.
  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, humidity, rain, and wind.
  • Frequent work at elevated heights utilizing bucket trucks, aerial lifts, scaffolding, and structures.
  • Exposure to energized electrical equipment, moving machinery, noise, vibration, and other industrial hazards.
  • Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles commonly found in industrial settings.
  • Requires strict adherence to all company safety policies, customer requirements, OSHA regulations, and best industry practices.
