Are you looking to deepen your accounting knowledge and put theory into practice? Do you want to put your skills to work on behalf of your community? The City of Beaverton is hiring an Accountant to join the Finance Department and provide excellent accounting services in a changing environment.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • A thorough knowledge of accounting and background or experience in government accounting.
  • Experience preparing financial reports, including annual audit reports and workpapers for auditors.
  • The ability to communicate clearly about complicated topics with accountants and non-accountants.
  • Interest in working with other city departments to create efficiencies and adopt newer technologies.
  • Excitement about learning new things, solving problems, and providing excellent internal customer service.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, Management 3 (M3) position. There is one vacancy.

  • Review financial transactions and prepare journal entries and adjustments to the general and subsidiary accounting ledgers. Assist in closing the City's financial records at the end of the accounting period and prepare related reports.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations. Assist in day-to-day banking relationship and operations. Maintain daily, multiple category cash spreadsheet, ensuring deposits and other receipts are classified correctly. Maintain cash receipt system, ensuring deposits are entered correctly and reconciled to bank statement, including lockboxes and electronic transactions.
  • Assist with annual 1099 process. Analyze funding availability for accounts payable and payroll. Review accounts payable and prepare and transmit Positive Pay file.
  • Review grant drawdown requests from City departments and administer grant software programs, ensuring appropriate tracking and reporting.
  • Prepare and review billings for cost reimbursements to and from other governmental agencies.
  • Prepare quarterly financial statements of assigned funds and assist in preparation of Annual Comprehensive Financial Report by preparing audit work papers, schedules, and statements of assigned funds.
  • Provide support for payment acceptance methods, including merchant credit card accounts.
  • Prepare required annual reports to third party agencies.
  • Keep current on accounting and auditing guidelines and regulations, perform research and interpret how they apply to financial transactions of the City.
  • Additional duties are outlined in the Accountant class specification.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, and
  • 2 years of professional accounting experience;
  • Experience in a government setting is preferred; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.

Wage range: $33.05 - $44.29 hourly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
