About This Position

Essential Functions of Role:

Meeting USDA and Company standards, and under the supervision of the Traffic and Export Manager, this role is responsible to assign shipments to common carries based on optimum service and price while following precedent and considering objectives.

  • Consolidate, build, and book freight with a mind for minimizing truck orders, maximizing pounds per truckload, and minimizing cents per pound.
  • Communicate with partner carriers throughout the load assignment and delivery process.
  • Communicates loading and delivery requirements to carrier.
  • Flexibility and adaptability when dealing with last minute changes, increasing demands, and light truck loads.
  • Negotiate spot rates with carriers as needed.
  • Assist with monitoring USDA and FSIS websites for changes to export regulations and processes.
  • Work with customers, sales, USDA, and warehouse team in coordinating export load requirements, delivery dates, and associated paperwork in a timely manner. (Country pre-approvals and Chamber of Com. documents where applicable)
  • Approval of freight invoices and accessorial charges.
  • Communicate OS&D issues to affected departments.
  • Support all inter related departmental needs.
  • Problem solving and escalation of issues as they arise.
  • Work with sales in planning local deliveries and inbound freight pick-ups.
  • Schedule deliveries at customer sites as needed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • College degree and/or current experience.
  • Transportation and dispatch experience in the cold chain logistics industry.
  • Experience in export documentation and inspection process with the USDA.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision while maintaining a customer service mindset.
  • Ability to retain poise under pressure.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a diverse workforce and with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to use various Microsoft programs, FSIS, Transportation and Warehouse systems.
  • Must be able to communicate, speak, read, and write fluently in the English language.

  • Physically able to perform the essential functions of the role as outlined.
  • Ability to handle cold, hot, and damp environments.
  • Ability to work varying hours as needed.
  • Ability to use computer keyboard, telephone, copying machine, labeling machine, laminating machine, etc.
  • Ability to lift and move 20 pounds of material; including but not limited to, minor office equipment, paper, files, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and audibly and to understand spoken requests.
  • Ability to detect and hear emergency alarm systems, understand verbal communication, phone system paging, and to assist and respond to emergency situations calmly, quickly, and appropriately.
  • Ability to visualize computer screens and to read and understand typed and written materials.
  • Ability to work in cold wet environment as necessary.
  • Use of hands and fingers, sitting and standing, twisting, bending and reaching during the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to operate and use office machines and equipment including telephone, computer, facsimile machine, etc.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language.
