Fort Edmonton Management Company (FEMCo), the organization that operates Fort Edmonton Park, is looking for energetic and passionate individuals to join our team as the Assistant Conductor. Fort Edmonton Park takes you on an iconic journey through the city’s incredibly rich history. The Park offers visitors authentic and immersive experiences, as well as access to special events, live performances, private event rentals, and culinary delights. Fort Edmonton Management Company’s strategic direction is aimed at making the Park the premier cultural tourism attraction in Western Canada.
Be a part of a team at the train station of one of the largest living history museums in Canada. Use your experience in hosting and your passion for customer service to deliver an outstanding first impression for our guests as they begin their train journey. Train conductors greet and assist passengers, oversee safety, and facilitate an amazing experience on the Heritage Steam Train.
This position may be partially funded by Canada Summer Jobs grant funding and therefore must meet the Canada Summer Jobs eligibility criteria.
To be eligible, candidates must:
be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the boarding, traveling and disembarking of hundreds of passengers each day.
Take responsibility for passenger safety with knowledge of Alberta Transportation guidelines and current practices and procedures as outlined.
Provide visitors an inviting orientation to the park, its attractions, activities and events.
Work in a team responding to the Head Conductor for duties directly related to the operation of the train (in accordance with Fort Edmonton Park Heritage Steam Train General Operating Instructions).
Engage passengers with the history of trains and their role in Edmonton’s development
Provide excellent customer service.
Follow the General Operating Instructions for the embarking, carriage and disembarking of wheelchair passengers.
Keep the inside of the coaches clean and orderly.
Report any malfunctioning equipment to the Chief or Shift Engineer.
Wear and maintain designated uniforms as provided by Fort Edmonton Park.
Other projects and duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience on trains or similar transportation services as well as experience in hospitality will be considered an asset.
Well developed Customer Service skills and excellent communication skills.
Conversational skills in other languages are an asset;
Must meet qualifications for Canada Summer Jobs Grant as outlined above
OTHER DETAILS:
Primarily seasonal part time role with majority of work in the summer season;
Primarily an outdoor and onsite position, weekday and weekend shifts typically between the hours of 9am to 8 pm with the majority of time spent outside;
Alternate or extended shift hours and/or overtime may be required for this position on an occasional basis, primarily during the Park’s operational summer season;
Required to wear a historical costume;
Must arrange own transportation as the Park often operates outside of regular public transit hours;
This position will be required to work in all weather conditions with frequent walking and standing, moving up and down stairs and across distances between buildings; pushing, pulling, crouching, bending, climbing from the train platform to the train cars, between cars and in the shop;
Required to perform frequent lifting and carrying at or below waist height, and occasional overhead reaching up to 20 lbs;
May be exposed to chemicals, smells, elements, noise, temperature etc;
May be required to wear appropriate PPE such as closed toed shoes, masks, gloves, safety vests etc.;
Exposure to or in contact with common allergens such as but not limited too hay, straw, fur, pollen, dust, peanuts/nuts, bee/wasp stings while on site;
Working in a busy site environment with frequent interruptions;
May be called upon to assist with procedures during an onsite emergency;
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada for any employer;
Media consent form required in accordance with FEMCo policy as this role may participate in media events as required; and
Original Police Information Check issued within the past 90 days that is satisfactory to the employer before starting in the position may be required.
