Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

The Compliance Officer partners with all General Managers to support their role in ensuring branch compliance with all hospice regulatory agencies and company policies and procedures to assure the highest degree of patient care quality. This is accomplished through extensive hospice knowledge and experience, frequent and thorough audits, and the development and delivery of frequent staff training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensure company-wide and individual branch compliance with company policies and procedures and hospice regulatory agencies including Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Office for Civil Rights (OCR);
  • Partner with the Governing Body to develop Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program and participate in development of Performance Improvement Projects (PIP's);
  • Audit data collection for QAPI program and participate with General Managers (GM's) in the implementation of PIP's;
  • Coordinate quarterly QAPI meetings, record and publish meeting minutes;
  • Review admissions and recertification in accordance with (CMS) regulations;
  • Audit compliance with Conditions of Participation, Hospice Item Set (HIS) Reporting;
  • Perform mock surveys using tracer activities for each branch;
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory agency reports by all deadlines;
  • Administer regular surveys; record, track, analyze, and present data and recommendations;
  • Maintain company forms, policies, procedures, information, and training materials in accordance with current regulations, requirements, and industry best practices;
  • Implement and train on policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and resource materials;
  • Understand risk management principles and make recommendations considering cost/benefit analysis and risk exposure consideration;
  • Administer family surveys to aid in QAPI developments and implementation;
  • Aid GM's in reviewing documentation of patients on service for more than 365 days.
ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
  • Actively participate in marketing and maintaining established relationships;
  • Maintain expertise in regulatory and industry changes and best practices;
  • Implement or supervise new documentation tools;
  • Performs related duties as assigned or required;
  • Prepare periodic reports for the Governing Body and Professional Advisory Committee.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a current license to practice in state(s) of operation strongly preferred;
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (CHPN), Advanced Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse (ACHPN), or Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Administrator (CHPCA) preferred;
  • Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience, preferably in a Home Health/Hospice setting within the past five (5) years, or five (5) years of hospice management experience preferably within the past seven (7) years;
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, Business, or related field preferred;
  • Knowledge of Medicare Conditions of Participation (COP) and Interpretive Guidelines, Medicaid, state, Joint Commission requirements, Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Office of Civil Rights requirements, and other applicable state and federal regulations;
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; including presenting to large groups;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and patient records;
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, manage time efficiently, and meet critical deadlines;
  • Ability to use office equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines, email;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Power Point, email, electronic calendars;
  • Schedule flexibility and travel required;
  • Must have valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Duties are performed in an office environment and require sufficient personal mobility and physical capability to permit employee to function in this environment;
  • Must be able to lift up to twenty (20) pounds;
  • Must be able to sit and/or focus on repetitive tasks for long periods of time;
  • May be required to work irregular hours including evening and weekend availability;
  • Frequent, regular travel by car and airplane required.
