Currency Exchange International is looking for a skilled and motivated Database Administrator to join our IT Team! This is a hybrid position, based in Orlando, FL.
Summary: The Database Administrator (DBA) owns the reliability, performance, security, and recoverability of our database platforms, while also supporting data integration and pipeline operations across the organization. This role is responsible for bridging traditional database administration with modern data integration practices, ensuring that data flows between systems are secure, reliable, and auditable.
Essential Functions:
Database Operations & Reliability
- Manage production and non-production databases (availability, performance, patching, upgrades)
- Establish and maintain operational standards, runbooks, and documentation
- Ensure system stability and uptime for critical business systems
- Partner with application, cloud infrastructure, and security teams to support complex, high availability systems and application releases
- Ability to provide after hours support for planned and unplanned maintenance
Backup, Restore, and Disaster Recovery
- Ensure backups are reliable and meet retention requirements
- Perform and document regular restore testing
- Maintain and improve HA/DR solutions (replication, failover, clustering)
- Support DR exercises and maintain recovery procedures
Performance & Monitoring
- Monitor database performance and proactively resolve issues
- Tune queries, indexing strategies, and schema design
- Implement observability and alerting strategies to proactively identify performance issues.
- Partner with engineering teams on release performance and scaling
Data Integration & Data Pipelines
- Design, implement, and support data integration workflows across systems
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines for ingestion and transformation
- Administer and support Apache NiFi (preferred) or similar tools
- Ensure pipelines are monitored, secure, reliable, and auditable
- Troubleshoot pipeline failures and optimize throughput and latency
Security & Compliance
- Implement least-privilege access controls and audit logging
- Manage service accounts, secrets, and credential rotation
- Support audit evidence requirements (SOC, SOX, PCI, regulatory)
- Ensure adherence to data security and governance standards
Automation & Continuous Improvement
- Automate routine DBA and pipeline tasks
- Improve reliability and reduce manual operations
- Contribute to documentation, runbooks, and operational playbooks.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or acceptable combination of equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a DBA or similar role
- Strong database experience (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL)
- Expertise in backup/restore and disaster recovery
- Strong performance tuning and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with ETL/ELT or data integration pipelines
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills
- Scripting experience (PowerShell, Python, or Bash)
- Strong documentation and operational discipline
- Experience with Apache NiFi or similar data orchestration tools
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS RDS, Azure SQL)
- Familiarity with APIs, messaging systems, or streaming platforms
- Experience in regulated/financial environments
