Job Description
Basic Qualifications
Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent; AWS certification, preferred though not required; AAR M-1003 and AAR M-1002 Quality Assurance Program knowledge; OSHA or other safety related certifications preferred
Skill(s): Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; ability to read blueprints and understand engineering terminology; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; proficient teaching skills; strong supervisory/leadership qualities; skilled in inspection procedures and quality control practices related to railcar maintenance; ability to conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions; in-depth knowledge of railcar systems, including brakes, couplers, structural components, and truck assemblies; strong understanding of AAR and FRA regulations and ability to enforce compliance; demonstrated knowledge of AAR M-1003 and AAR M-1002 Quality Assurance Program; adept in fleet maintenance programs or railcar leasing operations; proficient PC skills including Office products and information technology related to various industries; visual and auditory skills.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in railcar repair or mechanical maintenance, with 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Working Conditions: Ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, climb, and lift items weighing 40lbs. or less; work in excessive noise environment; work in extreme temperatures and elements for an extended period of time; work in confined spaces and at elevated heights; operate heavy machinery, power tools, or equipment; handle hazardous, volatile, or flammable materials; and exposure to excessive noise.
General Responsibilities
Responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the railroad division; hands-on operation of all equipment in the machine shop with the ability and willingness to train other employees, coordinating work within the department, as well as with other departments; reporting pertinent information to the owners; responding to inquiries or requests for information.
This position falls under the company's safety-sensitive category. Successful candidates must comply with all company safety policies and procedures, including a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy and are subject to pre-employment, random, post-incident, and reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing.
Essential Duties
a. Assists in the selection of new personnel as appropriate.
b. Makes provisions for the proper orientation and training of new personnel; trains new personnel as required.
c. Reviews employee performance throughout the orientation period and on a regular scheduled basis thereafter.
d. Organizes, schedules, and distributes work among assigned personnel.
e. Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the department and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
f. Administers personnel policies and procedures as established by company policy.
