Position Summary:

Material Handling Lead will be detail-oriented and proactive to drive day-to-day activities while supporting these activities directly where required. The Material Handling Lead will ensure inventory accuracy, support efficient warehouse operations including raw material cutting through shipping and receiving, and serve as a key liaison between supply chain, procurement, and operations teams. This role requires strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and a proven track record in inventory management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Receipt & Verification: Receive raw materials against PO and packing slip; verify part number, quantity, dimensions, and supplier. Record receipt in ERP and assign internal lot/batch identification.
  • Incoming Inspection & Quality Control: Perform required inspections (visual, dimensional, cert review) per procedure. Segregate and disposition any nonconforming material to prevent unintended use. Collect, review, and store material certifications (CoCs). Link certs to internal lot numbers and ensure accessibility for audits, FAIRs, and customer documentation requirements.
  • Lot Traceability & Identification: Maintain full traceability from supplier heat/lot to internal jobs and finished goods. Ensure all material is clearly labeled and tracked through each operation.
  • Inventory Control & Storage: Store materials in designated, labeled locations with accurate bin tracking. Maintain FIFO where applicable and ensure real-time ERP inventory accuracy. Package and label material/parts for external processing (e.g., heat treat). Include all required documentation, routing details, and traceability references. Ensure all material movements (receipt, transfer, issue to job, shipment to vendors) are accurately recorded in ERP to maintain inventory integrity and traceability. Perform and oversee cycle counting processes; investigate discrepancies, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with procurement, production, and warehouse teams to proactively resolve shortages, overages, and variances, while supporting and cross-training with Shipping to maintain a comprehensive, end-to-end view of inventory activity, including finished goods.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Support internal and external audits related to inventory accuracy and control.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize inventory management processes including implementing a 5S program for warehouse cleanliness and management
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in inventory control, supply chain, or warehouse operations; prior leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience cutting, measuring (with calipers), preparing/kitting, and staging a variety of materials for manufacturing, preferably in a machine shop setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in any field preferred.
  • Any lean experience or education preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory management practices, including cycle counting and reconciliation, shipping and receiving
  • Proficiency in ERP/WMS systems (SAP, Oracle, Epicor, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
