This role sits at the center of commercial risk evaluation, where you will assess, price, and underwrite workers’ compensation insurance applications across a diverse portfolio of industries. You will play a key role in ensuring profitable growth by analyzing risk exposures, applying underwriting guidelines, and making informed acceptance or declination decisions. Working within a digitally driven and data-focused environment, you will collaborate closely with brokers, internal underwriting teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to streamline submissions and enhance decision quality. The position combines technical underwriting expertise with customer engagement, requiring both analytical rigor and strong relationship management skills. You will also contribute to process improvement initiatives and support the development of underwriting best practices. - Evaluate and underwrite workers’ compensation insurance applications, renewals, and policy changes in accordance with established guidelines and authority levels.
- Determine appropriate coverage terms, pricing, and risk acceptance decisions to ensure profitability and portfolio balance.
- Analyze detailed risk characteristics across submissions, including industry exposures, loss history, and operational factors.
- Document underwriting decisions, risk assessments, and pricing justifications in compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with brokers and clients to provide guidance, recommend risk mitigation strategies, and support successful submissions.
- Manage end-to-end processing of accounts from quote approval through policy issuance with accuracy and efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with distribution partners to support production goals and business growth.
- Contribute to team development by sharing expertise, mentoring peers, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (10+ years in related roles may be considered).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in workers’ compensation underwriting or related commercial insurance roles.
- Experience underwriting risks in industries such as construction, hospitality, real estate, or manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of underwriting principles, pricing models, and risk evaluation methodologies.
- Familiarity with insurance regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn industry-specific platforms and tools.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to work effectively with brokers and clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing shifting priorities.
- Preferred certifications such as CPCU, CIC, CRIS, or Property & Casualty license are a plus.
- Competitive annual salary ranging from $101,000 to $127,000 USD, based on experience and qualifications.
