About This Position
The Building Substitute Teacher provides ongoing instructional and classroom support to meet the daily staffing needs of the school. This role involves assuming the responsibilities of an absent classroom teacher, implementing lesson plans as provided, and maintaining a positive and productive learning environment. In addition, the Building Substitute may participate in professional development opportunities and school-based initiatives to support student learning and school culture.
Key ResponsibilitiesDeliver instruction and manage classroom activities using lesson plans provided by the absent teacher.
Assume all duties and responsibilities assigned to the absent teacher for that day or during long-term assignments.
Maintain a classroom environment that supports effective teaching and learning.
Follow established classroom routines, procedures, and behavior expectations to ensure continuity for students.
Take necessary precautions to ensure the safety of students, materials, and equipment.
When lesson plans are incomplete, plan and implement age-appropriate and subject-relevant learning activities.
Collaborate with grade-level and support staff to maintain consistency in instruction and student support.
Contribute to a positive school climate and promote respectful interactions among students and staff.
Perform assigned morning and afternoon duties, including active supervision of hallways, classrooms, and the dismissal process.
Complete other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the school.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Minimum of 2 years of classroom teaching or instructional experience in an urban or diverse educational setting preferred.
Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly and work effectively in a variety of classroom settings.
Meets Highly Qualified status for Massachusetts Charter School educators.
Holds a Massachusetts Teacher Certification.
Flexibility and adaptability in meeting school needs.
Commitment to student success and maintaining high expectations.
Collaboration and teamwork across grade levels and disciplines.
Dependability and professionalism in all assignments.
