About This Position
ERG is seeking a Landscaper/Facility Maintenance Technician to support grounds and facilities maintenance projects and ensure a safe, clean, and operational environment at the Naval Support Facility (NSF) Indian Head. This role will involve performing routine groundskeeping tasks like mowing, weed whacking, and snow removal, as well as facilities maintenance projects like painting, minor renovation, and light repair.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, experience with landscaping tools and equipment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Additional skills in drywall, HVAC, plumbing, electrical work, or other trades are strongly preferred. This position is full-time at NSF Indian Head and the Stump Neck Annex. Indian Head, Maryland, is approximately 30 miles from Washington, D.C.; 25 miles from Alexandria, Virginia; and 60 miles from Fredericksburg, Virginia. Successful candidates will be assigned a day shift of either Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday.
Job Description:- Perform groundskeeping duties, including mowing, edge trimming, weed whacking, and debris removal
- Conduct snow removal operations, including shoveling, salting, and operating snow removal equipment
- Perform light chainsaw and debris removal work from the ground level
- Assist with facilities maintenance projects such as painting, minor renovation, and light repair
- Respond to groundskeeping and facilities maintenance requests and work orders in a timely and efficient manner
- Comply with safety regulations and building codes
- Assist with emergency repairs and respond to urgent situations as needed
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience with landscaping equipment (e.g., lawnmowers, trimmers, snow blowers)
- Familiarity with state and local building codes, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, and National Fire Protection Association standards is a plus
- Experience operating vehicles and moving equipment such as cars, trucks, trailers, and containers
- Willingness to learn forklift and mobile elevated work platform operation (training will be provided)
- Basic trades experience or working knowledge in carpentry, flooring, drywall, painting, roofing, concrete/masonry work, basic electrical work, or plumbing
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must possess valid U.S. work authorization and a valid REAL ID Driver's License
- Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and participate in a medical surveillance program for the duration of employment
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug tests for the duration of employment
- Must be capable of lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts
- Must be able to use carts, dollies, hand trucks, and other gear to move furniture and other items
- Must be able to go up and down stairs and ladders
- May require work in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents (e.g., fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation) are present
- Successful candidates will be required to receive a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) screening; please note that certain criminal convictions may impact eligibility and could preclude access to DBIDS credentials
$17 - $30 an hour
